The bit about the proposed taxi/PH input into Transport Plans, is what happens when you have a Highways Authority with many different councils.

Take West Sussex, there you have councils that restrict, councils that don't restrict, and councils that only restrict saloons, not WAVs.

How on earth can a coherent plan be complied from such differing angles? :?

Our council has just isseud a draft transport plan. Not sure what that is maybe to test the water.
If anyone wants a peep its on the local union website
http://www.brighton-taxi.org.uk/taxiPhstatement.pdf
The lads tell me its got a few ammeendments to go into it before its passsed. But it gives an idea of the depth that is now needed.
Although it doesnt mention the new rules for surveys.

it is possible, for each council to have their own input, though this is cumbersome if. they are all widely different.

most areas have widely the same policies, we have heard on here before how Nottingham's for instance all have the same conditions.

and councils do follow their neighbors, can I quote West Yorkshire as an example were the council in Calderdale were on their own on having no driver testing.

well that area saw the regions failures flocking to it and driver testing has been introduced.

a committee will certainly be set up to thrash out a few common borders.

another example where those who think nothing came out of OFT could be in for a shock

thats because there are no rules for surveys! the government issued guidance, and more guidance in detail is to come.

I have read Brighton's taxi imput, it would not be right for me to comment at this stage, except to say its well worded.

Drafts are published because there has to be consultation with the public, after all its their plan, and anyone who lives, works or has an interest in Brighton can comment or oppose.

Suppose someone in the plan proposed a bus stop outside the taxi office, they may wish to oppose it.

What isn't often appreciated, is that these plans are sometimes ignored by residents then are Adopted (a formal resolution by the council on completion of amendments, and completion of the plan) then oppose when works begin.

The story is the same "we told you the proposals" its often too late and judicial reviews are often unsuccessful, as you take on the government as well.

read it cgull and if you are not sure ring the council and ask!

Very interesting, however I can't see any reference to the taxi operator's cartel.

Maybe the c***** kid could add an amendment.

It seems typical of this trade to take what the government stated and try to make a mockery of it because the government announcement was not what they wanted.

The LTP initiative has got to be good for the trade, because it gets the trade involved in local transport issues, which is exactly what the trade has been blathering on about for years, involvement.

Now the government says, "right a good LTP must involve all forms of public transport" (which is not particulary new, because it was stated at least 6 years ago) the trade try to throw yet more obsicles in the way.

The only difference between now and 6 years ago is that the government have stated and will restate to those LA's who give the trade scant regard, get your house in order.

Regards

Captain Cab

Lets all hope councils now understand that, and the taxi and PH trade are as important to Joe Public as the buses.
