when a base imposes discounts it should only be if the rentals go down by the same amount

my discounts are +25% of HC rates....

His rents only go up

he will struggle to put them up if he has to lower his prices to beat the competition.this is hopefully his achilies heel he has never been challenged its time he was .then we see how loyal his drivers are or if he will drop his fees thats the only thing he can do really and that will hurt him for a change

Couple of points I wanted to make on this.

1. Shareholders did not vote for this - the vote was blind and they were voting to allow the Directors of said company to do as they please, not for any specific action. The directors of said company actually refused to tell the shareholders what they were voting for, incase rival companies found out.

2. Said company are not "loosing(sic) more and more punters", the PH drivers are taking all of the prime jobs for themselves. I know of one PH minibus driver on said company that has 18 regular jobs that all used to go through the office, who now (illegally) book by ringing him directly, and they're all very good jobs. It doesn't take many unscrupulous sorts to be doing this to add up to a lot of jobs that have vanished. The company who caused all this are loathed by so many in Blackpool that people don't mind paying a few pence extra for their journeys, those that do mind are usually the type you wouldn't want in your cab anyway.

blackpool is correct, this is a race to the bottom. Their meters are being changed today and rumour has it 6 owners have refused and will depart the company, no doubt to be followed by many more. As for getting a night driver to work for you? £1.20 cut per job in starting rate between 2am and 6am, then a 20% reduction in mileage based charges make reliable night drivers a thing of the past. If you own a cab on said company, forget about ever-reliable rent/split payers, it's every man for themselves now. Sad really, as it used to be a company worth driving for. Then what do you expect when a company is run by directors who keep themselves in the position with massive numbers of proxy votes? If they were up to the job, they wouldn't need proxies.

yea it was losing work big time no matter what you say about ph drivers doing illegal work.the majority of shareholders still voted for allowing directors to slash prices and today a £2 meter start went in to operation.all the blame with this falls at the feet of the other company.i think you misjudge the people of bpool and have mixed them up with other cabbies of bpool as they are the ones that loathe the other company some punters may do yes but they still get more work than anyone else so what does that tell yer.
job count has reduced and hours are up so either it needs to lose cars which it wont or get more punters.
i agree the directors oversaw the poor shape the company has become so it seems stupid to allow them to try and win loads of customers ---it wont happen.

The 'other'company is a different breed.Still think its a mistake to follow there discounted fares.Feck sake 2 quid ,costs you that in diesel to get to the address then throw in a discount card aswell !! The difference with the oppositionis he doesnt give a feck as his rents still come in the same every week, maybe a better way to go is trying proactively to take drivers and cars from him ,giving incentives to join your firm from lower rents/subs ect.I cant see how the discount will gain so much extra work for you.Wish you well trying though.Wouldnt use one of his vehicles if it was the only one there :D

What it tells me, as I said before, is that the type of people the blue company get are not the sorts you want in your cab anyway. I retired last year having owned a number of cabs on the blue company (in the very early days), and having had a cab on the Caunce st. lemmings (later on the streets). The difference between blue customers and red was the first thing that struck me when I moved over - I had to clean one of my blue cabs eight times in a year after their classy customers had soiled themselves in there, it never happened in 14 years on the other company. By lowering their fares, that's the sort of customer they'll attract, and what's the point of running around at cost price for those scumbags? You would be surprised just how many Blackpool people do despise the blue company too (those drivers running around for pence per job can be very abusive at times), and if you think they're earning big money, think again. I have a family member on there who's earning less now than when he started 8 years ago. He's throwing in the towel at the end of the season too.

Anyway, a number of the lemming company have contacted licensing today over the issue of forcing licensed cars to run duel tariffs. The response should make for a fun few months for the owners/directors of Blackpool taxi companies who no longer have their teddy to protect them from what's right and proper

Dual tarrifs, dual fare plates ? What the blue company boss has been good at is attracting new drivers/owners,his marketing of his company has worked.Once they are on you generally dont see them changing sides. As in if they leave they usually leave the trade.Think youll find they have a close relationship with licensing aswell !!!As i said before the fare drop doesnt really hurt him, loosing drivers and rents does ,so thats the route i would have chose. As for not wanting the sort of customers he has its tough out there and a jobs a job.
