I have had a few rational thoughts at times. But she nearly always says no.
Sadly GMB could be right on some points, as I have seen the decline of the London licenced cab trade.
It has been mentioned on these pages that the cream jobs from most hotels go to the PH mob and us mugs are left with the crumbs.
Why? The motto of drivers it seems is ' Sod you jack I'm alright'.
We take our dosh and thats all we care about.
We are not united.
Too many trade organisations each squabbling each other.
An expensive 'you have no other choice' vehicle.
I rest my case..

Mack when i was in Fleet St we all had bundles of time on our hands,so many ran other businesses,IE Pubs Hair Dressers,Massage Parlours,Escort Agencies,[really] and loads did the knowledge, and said one thing once they got the badge.
What a gutless self centred ignorant crew the black cabbies were, drive through their own picket lines, cut each other up for jobs, and vicious infighting between various organisations. However currently you must accept that even your limited unity does produce some results,i think you would agree that a one union militantly organised industry would be to all of your benefits, surely you could finish the vehicle issue off for a start.
Seriously when you have people coming from a pre-entry closed shop such as the print anything else woyld appear second rate. You mention you need unity i hope you get it but dont hold your breath!
As for us very early days but the number of x printers in my branch is astounding once the organising lesson is learnt,it sticks, not suprising when it was compulsory to be a member, attend meetings, vote in elections ,with iternal discipline, with the union controlling hiring and firing. It took the combined might of the state, with the police assaulting men women and children, snd the connivance of Kinnock and other assaulted scum we lost. One inevitable result the appaling exploitation prevalent in many industries and most particularly HACK PHV you seem to racognise the need for organisation i hope you get it.In the GMB we are determined to do it,and no we DONT currently want to ply for hire.

Show them some respect, they deserve it. If you want to slag of the police, go to a political website.
A national union rep calling the police police, what if one of your members gets robbed?, you are a fecking disgrace!!.

I see you've made another friend Terry.

The day that Minicabs have the right to ply for hire along side me (although many seem to think they already have that right) will be the day I join the GMB, opposed to a real Taxi association with a large bank account.

GMB. Many years ago I also worked in the 'Street' (BUP). But other things and jobs passed before I did the knowledge.
The camaraderie between cab drivers was well known. The support between them was good. But then most were TGWU members. It was when the TGWU failed in stopping the then rising scab menace, the members fled to the ranks of the newly formed 'Ginger' group that became the LTDA.
The TGWU could easily have said to its docker 'brothers' "Do not unload the ships that were carrying the Renaut Dauphine cars" that Gotla had purchased for his scab fleet. But they failed to do this.
Even the LTDA with its super plan to erase the scabs turned into a very damp squid.
But that was in the past.

Rambo i cant make up my mind if your just nieve, inexperienced,or brainwashed. The f---h have a record second to non in this country.
Let me explain when the NAZIS occupied the channel islands, they gleefully assisted the Gestapo to arrest socialists, trade unionists, and jews.proud of them are you.
During the 1960s the city of London CID colobarated with a criminal gang in organising an armed robbery at the Daily Mirror building, during this raid one of the members of my union WAS KILLED.proud of them are you?
During the 70s and 80s several police forces manufactured evidence against innocent people on terrorist charges ie The Winchester 3,The Guildford 4,and The Birmingham6,all these people were subsequently cleared and awarded substantial damages.
During the miners dispute they repeatedly broke the law os freedom of movement of miners and their supporters.
At Orgreave they repeatedly attacked miners, and inflicted many injuries, the media at the time falsified news coverage,as was admitted 20 yrs later proud of them?
During the printers dispute with Murdoch they repeatedly attacked demonstrators, and on one occasion mounted police attacked women and children in an enclosed space.prud of them?
Currently we are collating the activities of the Transport Operational Command Unit, who it could appear are involved in racially motivated entrapment against PHV drivers, proud of them?
During the 80s i attended a meeting with the Chief Constable of Devon and Cornwall, where he explained how good decent people joined his force and were on duty in that area for 6 months or so,then they went to Hendon police college for training,he stated that what returned was normally an anti working class, racist, anti union, ersatz **** storm troope rof no use to him or the human race whatsoever, proud of them?
we all recognise the necessity of a police service,i just critiscise the shower we are lumberd with, all of the above is factually verifiable ARE you proud of them? they disgust me,i have met some decent elements recently, and off the record thay recognise the problem. We of course ensure that the Mayor is up to date on our concerns now he has jurisdiction over them.you might not know that at one they used to search Kens dustbins,God knows why.And i know for a fact that at one office i worked at they tapped the phones. They need straightening out and the GMB will work tirelessly too ensure are we deserve a decent police service what we can all be proud of,heres hoping!!!!!!!!!!
ORGANISE EDUCATE AGITATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

Mack so you recognise where we are coming from,i see no reason given agreed demarcation, why we should not work as 2 brother industries.but unfortunately the likes of GBC with his congenital deficiences would
makeit somewhat difficult.

GMB, when I was a young lad my dad had about 50 lorries on the road and I can remember my dad going to a union secretarys house and bunging him £500 to get his lorries on contract out of the fruit market, a prime example of a union man screwing his own members!!. I will be the first to agree that the police have made mistakes in the past but does that mean you have to slag them of constantly, alot of police officers have died in the line of duty protecting us, and for that they deserve our respect.

Rambo I agree with you , the man is obviously carrying lots of baggage and stuck in a time-warp.
I have worked as a private hire myself and also pushed a few jobs out over the mike, stick at it till you pass the knowledge , good luck..
