With the ever increast Fuel costs.

What are peoples thought on Fuel Cards for Taxi business

I have many shell garages around me and the services on motorways and Airports
have been changed to shell.

Thinking of a Shell CRT Card at a fixed rate.

Any thoughts would welcome any info

You don't get a deal of discount with them, you need a fleet of lorries to get a decent discount.

Got one here through the fuel card people not a huge saving normally between 5 and 2p litre cheaper than the cheapest local prices (normally morrisons)

Handy as it lets you pay your fuel bill after your credit work is paid out ( we do a lot of account work)
But don't be expecting to save fortunes. Normally I save £2-3 a tank but at 3/4 tanks a week it's a small help

I use cards that allows me to draw fuel from Esso or Morrisons forecourts, saves me around 2.5 pence per litre roughly, its convenient and every penny helps these days.

I have a Shell card but it has been uncompetetive against local pump prices recently. OK if you're out of area using motorway services, etc.

locally its £1.469 to £1.429 a ltr and I get the VAT back

i shall ask someone with a card but TBH 1 car wouldnt get you much (if anything) off the price and they quote less vat usually

They say 3p less than the national average but given that we are just about the cheapest area in the country, that doesn't help an awful lot. Currently 1.397 at local Asda.

Personally i never use supermarket fuels, they are cheap for a reason, and i get less MPG with Tesco/Sainsbury/Morrisons and my engine doesnt like the stuff

Supermarket fuels are cheap because of they're buying power and cutting their margins to the bone. They'll use fuel as a loss leader in some circumstances. They still have to comply with relevant british standards and, certainly locally, are regularly checked by trading standards.

Major brands are blended with additives, supermarket fuels are basic just up to the required EN590

Tesco might buy it off Shell, BP or Esso and they even livery trucks+tanker trailers to do it dont think for a minute you get Shell advanced at Tesco for 5p less a ltr

I have been talking to a fuel card supplier today. They will guarantee to be 3p per litre below the nationaal average for 12 months. We are in a more expensive place than most so that would be quite a saving for us. We spend around £3,500 per month on fuel.

No they aren't, it's of low quality and doesn't do your engine any good running it on supermarket fuel all the time.

Its not low quality, its basic quality, enough to comply with the required legal level, I used to visit a major bulk fuel terminal supplying trailer fleet parts, Tesco+Sainsbury tankers were in fact Esso, there was only Esso, BP, Shell and Mobil with their own tanks, but supermarket "esso" diesel had no additives, if you want cheaper fuel get your own bunker, buy bulk, 5000 ltrs at a time

an alternative is to drive slower and get better MPG..........

with using £40 of fuel each day , every little counts.

If you are looking to save money on your £40 per day, I would start by checking your fuel tank for leaks.
