or expensive thing that has been left behind in your taxi? i had a purse two years ago that had a good few £20's and £50's in it (must have added up to over £800+), i didn't know it was there and when they were looking for me over the radio when the women had phoned in looking for it but by the she done that i was in the house, and in bed when the phone rang at 11:00pm the office wanted me to take it straight to her house right at that moment as the women was sure she left it in the taxi, i told them i had had a few half's and beers and couldn't drive, so anyways the next morning i go and check the back of the car and see it lying on the back seat, open it and there is a good few bob in there, luckily she was my last hire so no one else had the chance to lift it, i go to her house and give her the purse, she was very great full and even gave me £20 for bringing it back, and it was in the run up to Christmas so she was lucky i got it or else some people wouldn't have been any getting pressies, what is your most interesting or expensive item left behind in your taxi/ph?

Found a wallet one Sunday while cleaning the car out, just a few member cards, family photos and a letter with the address. Was taking the tribe for a family day out, it meant a 10 mile detour but I delivered it back. particularly in view of the Photos, door opens "Did you lose anything says big smiling me" ; "Yea" says he so I handed over the wallet "Wheres the Fking money he says?" Before I could venture a word he shouts "Bl00dy Taxi Drivers!" and slammed the door in my face. Nice man I thought :O)

I found a wallet with no id (only a photo) and £200 in 20s. It was last thing on a Saturday (approx 4am), our police station is only part time, so early doors Sunday I phoned the police call centre and was told to hold onto it till the Monday. No chance says I, there's money involved and I'm not willing to take any risks of it going missing. So they relunctantly opened the office and took the wallet in. I got a nice letter and £20 from it's owner.

I was passed an brand new iphone (they only launched them the day before) by a customer once, (she was the first in the back seat for 2-3 hires) so I had a good idea where it belonged. So after dropping the hire, I went to the house of the phones owner, feck me you'd think I was handing her a dog [edited by admin] the reaction I got. Now any phones go to the police, unless I can work out owner or it's claimed.

BTW I always inform the office as soon as when anything found. That way the loser knows their item is safe.

I found my wife back there the other day.. =D>

But seriously, in Sweden there must be a lack of common sense as we need a law telling us what to do re. finders fee etc.
10% is the norm.

"reimburse reasonable costs and reasonable finders fee. decided by court if need be" etc. etc.

Do You rely on common sense over there?

All the BEST!
/Magnus

RANT !!!!!!!

This is a subject that really gets my goat items left in our taxis are fairly rare and often unclaimed things like glasses pipes keys etc. and yet we get dozens of calls a week from people who have allegedly left their wallets or mobile phones or passports in our vehicles. I really get annoyed at the sheer volume of timewasters who were in such a state that they have absolutley no idea which taxi they used to get home but are 100% certain they lost whatever it is in the back of YOUR vehicle

I estimate that we find the item in only 1 in 300 cases

When I first started out in 1981, I found £1500 wrapped in newspaper next to the front seat, took it strait to the police station because I could not figure out who it belonged to, got the whole lot back from them after 6 months as nobody had claimed it. :D :D :D
Had a think about it ans I had only had the car for 2 days, could it have been stashed under the seat by the previous owner :?:
