One of the interesting things that came out of Hubert's article is that the average Uber commission is now 28%.

No wonder many of their UK drivers have got the hump.

Currently, $30.47 so not exactly setting the world on fire.

About 7% down on the month.

If they were going to fail then it would have already happened by now.

For all the effort of their critics and doubters the shares seem to brush it off and I cannot believe that all their investors haven't done their homework Uber will one day be the worlds most profitable company overtaking the likes of apple it is only a matter of time before they make real profits after all their commission they take keeps creeping up and driver numbers are not falling which suggests the business model is succeeding.

Had the council in LA been a bit more proactive when they ordered them to close down in the early days they might have been another tech firm that failed early on but now they are here to stay

Everything is fantastic, apart from losing another $157 million in the last quarter. :-k

Uber shares jump as it reports higher sales

Uber shares rocketed higher early Tuesday after the ride-hailing and delivery company reported a jump in revenues amid rising demand.

Pointing to robust activity in numerous markets, the company reported a 29 percent jump in first-quarter revenues to $8.8 billion, with much higher gross bookings in both mobility and delivery.

Uber reported a loss of $157 million. That translated into a loss eight cents per share, a penny better than analyst expectations.

Chief Executive Dara Khosrowshahi said the company is working to reach profitability by "optimizing every single line item" across its business, according to prepared remarks.

Gross bookings and trips growth exceeded typical seasonal trends in the United States, Canada and Latin America, Khosrowshahi said.

He said "cutting edge" artificial intelligence programs have allowed for more precise estimated arrival times and faster onboarding times.

"We are still in the early stages of using large data models to power improved user experiences and efficiencies across our platforms, with much more to come," he said.

Uber is also investing in delivery of items such as groceries and alcohol as a growth venture.

The company expects headcount to be "flat to down through the coming quarters" as it seeks to rein in costs.

Shares rose 5.8 percent to $34.63 in early trading.

As I've said before the losses don't matter as long as uber keeps growing because that is what generates profit for investors not share dividends

Currently $43.52 which is what they were when they first listed.

However Uber has lost about $20 Billion since it listed.

Everything is fab according to the FT.

https://www.ft.com/content/dae2b90e-1ba ... aae4ca05d7

The first time they have ever made a profit.

Still shares dropped 5.5% due to Uber's turnover missing expectations by $100,000,000. FT must have missed that. #-o

Uber are like teflon it doesn't matter how many stories of people being overcharged, mysterious soiling incidents, etc etc the S*I* doesn't stick

they are the worlds favourite transportation operator and with so much money invested in their shares by pension funds, wef members and all these people desperately trying to convince the world that we can all make our fortune trading they are embedded into society now.

The fact that they can always provide drivers when everyone else is providing excuses suggests people like working for them.

The shares will meander up and down but they are now an established company trading well and still growing so the financial world will always love them.

So they tell the financial press they made $326,000,000.

But (as SW posted in the news section) they are facing a bill from HMRC, which will be getting larger by the day, of £386,000,000.

In my world that amounts to a large loss. :-k
