My private car has been written off after my crash four weeks ago.

Always new it would be from the moment it happened, but only settled today.

Never accept the first offer from an insurance company, they are a bunch of shylocks.

Made it clear that I would appeal if they didn’t up the offer. Difference between opening offer and settlement was nearly £2,000!

A lesson to us all.

Thing is most folks are happy to get anything and move on.

the only trouble is if you appeal the onus is on you to PROVE the car is worth more

That wasn’t difficult. Auto trader website is very useful indeed.

I had a vehicle written off years ago (Sierra sapphire 2.0 GLS, fantastic car!) after four months I still hadn’t received my money, gave them a bill of just over £1,000 storage from a friend who ran a garage ( the car was sat on my drive!) they settled within the week and I was a grand up!

If possible always store damaged vehicle on your property. off the highway

If possible value a cash repair and look at buying the "wreck" off the insurance company, it worked well for me at least once and badly for my son when he didnt (as usual) follow my advice
