See my post went down anyway what do I do I have had 24 years doing this, Taxi driving, starting to get tired of it, its becoming a chore to drag myself out ,once I'm out it ok for a few hours, won't work days cos of the kids with prams oap's and tokens and the crap traffic, just work nights part time basis I have earned my money, done 3 jobs in my life, Army, hydraulic engineer, taxi driver I have bought more things material wise than I ever did in engineering, cash is king Buts its now getting boring, not earning the money did 10 years ago, maybe I am but it don't go as far now was going to jack but No1 son had words, cos I was on about getting a REAL job to finish off with, I know I'm passed sell by date, but I'm fit and healthy, but knackered from taxi driving, or is that all in the mind. No 1 son said there is no real jobs, and what would you do he said, are they not any real jobs??, then again could I be bothered of getting up to go to work Could sell the plate in a week, but is that the right way to go, I p"ss my medicals so thats no problem with health can someone put me on the straight and narrow, my No1 son is fumming at the thought that I want to give up |

Well, if it helps. Ive been self employed for almost 25yrs and the thought of someone telling me what time i have to be in work for, and what to do in the time i'm there scares the S**T outa me. Also the time i'd be there, for every hour i work for a company i'd be getting 1/4 of the cash and thats the crux of your decision. Could you put up with being told by some 20yr old that your doing something wrong or not doing it "our way"? I couldnt. The experience you have of the wide world in engineering and Taxiing would be wasted working for someone who only has half the knowledge you have, but wants it done their way "because it say's so here in my manuel" Treat yourself to a new motor with all mod cons and it'll feel like your re-born! Good luck whatever you decide mate. |

I feel just the same as you stinky and I'm only going out late afternoon. I have been doing the job for 25 years as well, only had 3 apprentice plumber, army and this, But I have a young family, oldest is 15, and she wants to stay on a school and get all the best exam results she can then go to uni, and even though I just want to pack in my kids futures come first and I will have to soldier on to make sure they get a good start. I don't know if you have a family or how old they are or even grand kids?? just get out there I know the weekends are the best so take time out at the start of the week Mon Tues or wed but work the rest. What we need is as the RSM used to say was a kick up the khyber and positive thinking |

I think you have got to consider how much your plate is worth now, to how much it will be worth if the gov get rid of section 16.
I don't know the full SP of the local PH trade in your manor, but I suspect you will do alright.

As they say in the forces to the sprogs.. 'Get some in' I have been at it for 44 years 7 months & 4 days. Everything you say is true. But nothing is the same as what it was years ago.
I am I suppose in the autumn of my time in the trade. It was a good game but the last seven years since that geezer ( not allowed to call him nasty names) Livingstone. (Now why don't he go and get lost in the jungle like his name sake did). He has turned the trade into a shamble. First he took away the extras. (why stop for a four hander when there is a single pin also about). Then there was the recept printers that no one uses. (how can you when the job says " round it up and give us a recept" It only prints out whats on the meter) And now this emission bit of kit that don't work but you have to have it. Last one out the trade turn off the engine.
