Can now say that Office of Fair Trading are now involved with the illeagal practices of hire permits of the taxi company that runs York railway taxi rank as from today, they are the ones who want to sell you a plying for hire permit to use the rank together with paying for a radio, no exceptions, hand your radio in, loose your permit to ply for hire at the railway rank
the investingation has now started

it only took one brave man to stand up to these blackmailers and to complain to the authorities, I applaud him

they have tried to protect this little gold mine for too long for themselves, I have waited a long time for this, hanging in there, now the right man has come along to bust it, the last chap who started to get up their nose accidently died a few years ago, who was almost there to break it wide open, lets hope the same answer comes out yet again as it did a few years ago that they are in the wrong, yet again

I think the issue is that drivers can't work there, unless they join a taxi firm costing £5,000 (ish) a year.

Now if your an operator then that's just fine, but if your a driver that just wants to work the ranks, then that's not so fine.

What then happens if another firm buys up another rank, will the cab drivers have to pay two sets of office rents, just to work as a taxi?

I could go on, but I would love to know what act stops a licensed taxi driver picking up a customer off a rank in their area. A permit is one thing, office rent is another.

Again, thank goodness for OFT. :D
