I've just received the brochures for the new TX4 and I have to say that at first I thought it looked absolutely terrible. I think the new front end and grille came as a shock. When you take a look though, it is really only the front that has been altered. That is, of course, apart from the obvious change - the engine. Having said this though, the more you get used to it, the TX4 does look good - and certainly retains the 'taxi' looks of the Fairway and TX1 / TXII. I'd definitely still rather drive a TX than a converted vehicle. I can't comment on the engine - a 2.5 unit produced by VM - but I doubt it could be much worse than the 2.4 Ford 'Dura Torq'. The emphasis seems to be on safety with such additions as all-round head restraints in the passenger compartment and of course the introduction of ABS. The TX4 Bronze manual costs £29,995 at Taxifix. For an automatic gearbox you would pay an extra £1,500 and for a metallic colour you'd have to pay another £650. I haven't seen any out on the roads yet, but I'm sure it won't be long. I really hope the TX4 proves itself as a good reliable taxi. In short, I hope it is everything that the TXII wasn't. |

I haven't a clue. It could be the DRIVER modfel though, because there is a TX4 Driver. This is likely to be the entry level model. |

My only concern is that the engine is fitted with a timing belt where I would have prefered to see a chain. It looks good, but as already stated the reliability will have to be everything the TX2 wasn't. B. Lucky
