This will take some explaining as to what the situation is but it is one that has caused me much grief and anger and has forced me to reevaluate wether i should give up taxi driving and try and find some other means of earning a living !

10 days ago i was heading down the M11 towards Stansted with a full load of passengers and luggage on board when suddenly there was a loud bang and the drivers window shattered and came in on me after stopping and removing as much of the remaining broken glass as possible it was decided to continue the journey and get the passengers to the airport a bit draughty but the passengers got away on time and had a good holiday (fetched them back on wednesday). On return phoned the insurance window was replaced lost half a days work but that was one of those things. Little did i know what was to follow.........

two days later I started getting phone calls and comments shouted at me by drivers from a rival taxi firm basically alleging that I DELIBERATELY smashed the window with my fist a story which i believe they have been repeating to their customers and to me. Well it's been a stressful enough week this week due to many drivers being unavailable for work because it's half term and my having to work very long hours to cover and not surprisingly I blew my top at this and made it clear I would do something about it at which point they laughed their heads off

I tried the police and said that i have been accused of criminal damage but they said that unless my accusers make a complaint they cannot investigate and prove my innocense. It would be almost impossible to sue for slander as people would almost certainly refuse to come forward and testify to what is being said. The council Licensing Officer says that it is an arguement between two drivers and they cannot investigate or get involved in any way unless a customer makes the complaint

I am being branded a criminal in what amounts to a trial by slander the only other option I can think of is to ask the local rag to print a challenge from me to provide the evidence by which they justify calling me a criminal but I doubt that they would print it even if i paid to have it put in as an advert

Antone out there got any ideas as to how I can sort this and i am not prepared to turn the other cheek and allow my name to be blackened in this way

Why the fook would you smash it yourself?
I'd let it blow over, they'll have something else to wind someone up with next week.
What good is it doing them spreading rumours? to me it makes them look pathetic :?
Chill mate, you know what rumours are like in this game! If it wasnt your window they'd be saying your humping some base op or other!

I understand your view, but the more you make of it the worse it's going to effect you.

I would bide my time because some time in the future your time will come.

What you could do is to nick the other mush's best punters, might cost you a few quid, but it will be worth it.

the other mush's are pinching everyone else's punters at the moment by offering £1.50 anywhere in town fares for some journeys that works out at less than 40p a mile !!

Again I see your point, but if it was me I wouldn't give a monkeys, and if need be would do it for nothing.

If they want a ruck (non-physical version), with me they would get it.

Why not get one of the punters that where in the cab to write to the paper explaining what happened and the fact that you got them to the airport on time and where extremely pleased with you and would recommend you to anyone, now that would [edited by admin] the wasters off.

It's that time of year again itsn't it - works gone slow and no one has anything better to do than have a go at someone who happens to get a better job than them!

I'm glad that both you (edders23) and your passengers were safe and uninjured in what could have been a very nasty accident.

There have been recent road works on the M11 North of Stansted and you may have come across something on the road as a result of these or an earlier accident. Or, as is happening regularly here, you have have been the victim of items being thrown off bridges.

The best action I would recommend is to contact the local Police to where this happened as report it. There may have been other incidents and at least that way they will HAVE to look into it; and you get a Crime Reference Number which clears your name and helps with the Insurance.
