I think folks need to calm down.

If big changes are proposed, then I will be frankly amazed.

I'm PH that would be a lowering of my standards here to meet the London standards for the same. If you mean a knowledge of my area as good as 'The Knowledge' all I say to that is bring it on

Personally, I am quite prepared to sit back and wait, to see what the outcome will be. and then I will be interested in what direction things take...... and whether or not somebody will take up the poisoned chalice... that represents the rules and regulations regarding the hackney and private hire trade...... it will be interesting to see whether or not they place any importance on driver conditions and the hours they work...... or whether their view will simply be focused on the people or organisations that contribute to their campaign funding...... over the last few days the rumour mill in Liverpool has been beating the drum... the message has been that unite has won a victory..... we will just have to wait and see...

I think any change of the law, or new Cab Act, will remove section 16 and include us in the working time directive.

Which leads me to think there will be no new act.

I suspect I'm the only driver in the country that doesn't object to either of those issues, and I do care.

On the subject of a new Cab Act or not, I printed off the Taxis Act (Northern Ireland) 2008, this morning as it is the most recent in these islands of ours and read it on the rank today.

If a new England and Wales Cab Act roughly follows that template, then your definition of a 'street' as per TPC 1847 goes out of the window for a start.

Then if you are an owner/driver you have to be an operator as well and record all your hirings, howsoever they originate, unless you elect to work for another operator, which obviously means shelling out more money.

But I do like Section 41, Power of seizure [of a naughty vehicle]!!
