Jamie Hitcham had also dragged the woman across a path by her handbag and grabbed her hair during the incident in Lowestoft in July last year, Ipswich Crown Court heard.
A taxi driver had intervened and Hitcham had used a pair of pliers to scratch a window and dent the bodywork of the vehicle causing £154 damage, said Mark Halsey, prosecuting.
He had also thrown stones at the taxi, kicked the front passenger window and tried to force open a door.
Hitcham, 37, of North Denes Caravan Park, Lowestoft, admitted common assault and damaging a taxi.
Sentencing him Judge David Pugh said that as Hitcham had been in custody he would be eligible for immediate release.
Nicola May for Hitcham said her client, who has 44 previous convictions, had been in custody for several months and had sought help for his drug and alcohol issues while he had been in prison.
