Another effective recruitment ad for new drivers dressed up as something else.

To be fair, it's slightly different from the usual advertorial of this type, but again not difficult to spot the intent.

Glaswegians challenged on their city knowledge as famous Glasgow Taxis test goes online

The 'Taxi 10' gives everyone the chance to see how they can handle ten tough questions about routes in Glasgow.

Glasgow Taxi drivers have always been in a league of their own for The Knowledge they have of the city’s streets – now Glaswegians are being challenged to see if they can match up to them.

To celebrate the company’s famous 'topographical training' moving completely online, thought to be a first in the UK taxi trade, Glasgow Taxis has made a short test available for members of the public.

The 'Taxi 10' gives everyone the chance to see how they can handle ten tough questions about routes in Glasgow, with anyone who manages 10/10 inside two minutes being entered into a draw for a £100 taxi voucher.

Dougie McPherson, chairman of Glasgow Taxis, the biggest taxi company in Scotland, said: "Glasgow Taxis is both proud and very pleased to be – we believe – the first taxi company in the UK to move all topographical training for The Knowledge test completely online. It will make that training journey much more accessible and flexible for all taking it.

"Our Taxi 10 campaign allows us to increase awareness of this critical element of taxi driver training, while giving people the chance to have some fun too.

"If that helps us generate a few future Glasgow Taxi drivers then all the better. Good luck to everyone having a go!"

You can take the two minute test here.

I think when people realise the hurdles they have to jump to become a taxi driver in a big city, the less chance there is of them joining the trade.

Down here I think it's 6 months and nearly £1,000 all in to get a license. \:D/ \:D/ \:D/

all well and good except for the fact that you dont get asked any questions about routes in the actual test

That's kind of what I thought - articles (there was a similar one on the Evening Times website) give the impression that Glasgow Taxis administer their own knoweldge, whereas it's actually the council, or the NVQ providers or whatever these days.

But not Glasgow Taxis. Kind of confirms the gimmicky nature of the thing [-(

All glasgow taxis have ever done is run the topographical school, theydo give you mock tests after you do the taxi school to practice for the real thing but thats the extent of their contribution, and you are correct its the city council who do the tests
