It's Glasgow, and it's not a black cab, so I'm assuming it's a PHC.

Of course, could be HC from out-of-area.

There's a video on the website, but it's better viewed here on Twitter, and the face isn't blurred here either. Not sure why the face on the Record's video is blurred, but the still images aren't :?

The grey-haired 'driver' is shown confronting the alleged taxi fare dodger after he ran off into a dead end in the residential street.

A shocking video has emerged appearing to show a taxi driver punching an alleged fare dodger.

The footage shows a middle-aged man, who is believed to be a Scots taxi driver, punching a younger male in the face in Govanhill in Glasgow.

The clip was shared on social media yesterday and captioned "Welcome to Govanhill. He bumped a taxi and ran down a dead end".

The grey-haired driver is shown confronting the alleged taxi fare dodger after he ran off into a dead end in the residential street.

The driver, who is wearing a checked shirt and jeans, corners the man wearing a red hoodie and is shown aggressively pointing and shouting in his face.

Within seconds the driver then lands a stiff jab to the other man's face, sending him into the wall behind.

Whilst the man in the red jumper recovers from the harsh blow, the supposed cab driver storms off, returning to what appears to be a silver taxi.

The video was initially posted onto TikTok but has since been removed.

It was re-shared on Twitter yesterday with the caption: "Jabbed aff a taxi driver."

he post now collected over 800 likes with dozens of comments and retweets from Twitter users who praised the alleged taxi driver.

@Graemeweir5 wrote: "Well done the taxi driver.

"It's hard enough out there, never mind those feckers trying to bump you.

"From a fellow taxi driver I know how it feels!"

@Neilbev1983 commented: "If you're gonna bump a cab at least know where you're running to."

@CanYouSeeUsNow2 replied: "Bit of advice for the jakebaw, when you're bumping a taxi you're not supposed to get the taxi to your front door.

"Nice jabby on the cabbie too."

@garya1981 said: "Nearly ko'd him with a jab."

Not sure whether the door stickers visible are consistent with a Glasgow PHC, or whether maybe an out-of-area HC. Maybe Jozef or someone else could clarify?

Some will have sympathy with a driver who has had a non payer.

But we are meant to be 'fit and proper' no matter what.

looks like a north lanarkshire p/h
the big systems here have cars in their fleet from other councils, usually because they have lower standards and cheaper fees, and amazingly they get allowed to run them in glasgow

The video with the audio is there now - bit of shouting back and forth going on, including 'junkie barsteward/c***'

Can't quite make out what driver is saying, but get the impression it's maybe not just a straightforward runner.

The driver says: "You got oot o' the motor and...."

The lad is saying he "didnae" dae whatever it was.

Can't quite make out what's exactly said by the driver at that point...

All sounds very messy.

And I see complaints are being made about the new Glasgo Cabs outfit allegedly breaching the legislation by displaying the word 'cab' on their vehicles:

Indeed it's an open and shut cases as far as physical violence is concerned.

But I'm wondering if it was just a straightforward runner, or if there was something else happened :-k

will it make much difference ? the licensing committee are unlikely to be swayed especially as it's his word against the toe rag

Just taxi forum curiosity - certainly don't think anything said on here will have slightest bearing on what happens.

In fact, you never know, if no official complaint is lodged then he might just get away with it 8-[

the two companies who merged to form glasgo cabs were both very big companies, mainly p/h cars, but both had a number of hackney cabs in their fleets,so technically,as they have a mixed fleet, they are allowed to use the word cab

They can call them what they like, I think the issue being raised here is they can't have signage with the words cab or taxi on their PH vehicles.

But the complaint is specifically about the use of the word 'cab' on PHCs, and whether that complies with the legislation:

Note that it doesn't specifically just ban the word 'taxi', or it would say that. So it's intended to be a bit wider than simply banning the t-word.

Not sure what Glasgow's PHC conditions say, but in fact Edinburgh's specifically ban the word 'cab':

Anyway, while trying to work out if the driver's vehicle was a Glasgow PH, was looking for a photo of Glasgow's PH door stickers to compare them with the vehicle in the video.

Of course, what I thought would be easy peasy to find, wasn't.

But, as Jozef suggested, it's more likely an out-of-area HC, possibly from North Lanarkshire.

Anyway, as luck would have it, yesterday the Glasgow press published some handy photos showing Glasgow PH door stickers, as below. Which indeed confirm that the vehicle in the video wasn't a Glasgow PH.

(The photos were from a piece on the ADCU-organised protest about the Covid grants, which I didn't bother posting because the arguments are pretty well-rehearsed by now, but it's here if anyone wants to read it:

https://www.glasgowtimes.co.uk/news/193 ... nt-grants/

In fact this piece on the protest was a slightly more comprehensive read:

Doesn't look like the protest was well attended though, and doubt it would make much difference anyway :? )
