Transport for London (TfL) has warned private hire drivers not to use fraudulent websites claiming to fast-track applications to become a licensed driver.
This comes after a surge in the number of firms offering third-party services, mainly on social media and online forums, to speed up and ensure minicab drivers of a quick licence.

Currently there are 3,243 driver applications awaiting initial assessment with the capital’s regulators. Of those applications, 2,977 are new, 7 are for taxi driver licences and 2,970 are for private hire.
Of those 266 are renewal applications (34 taxi, 206 private hire and 26 priority renewal cases). Renewal applications are prioritised over new applications according to TfL.

A TfL spokesperson said in a weekly newsletter to the taxi and private hire industry: “It has come to our attention that a number of fraudulent websites are offering fast-track PHV licensing services. We would like to remind applicants and licensees that TfL do not offer a fast-track service. All applications for a licence should be made directly to TfL or can be submitted via the Post Office’s Check & Send service.

“Applications are processed in the order in which they are received.

“Fraud prevention advice is to trust your instincts and that if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.”
