Compared to the speed at which these things often progress, the wheels of justice seem to have moved pretty quickly here :-o

Looks like the incident happened around Saturday lunchtime, and they were in court and sentenced by Monday

Or at least one of them was sentenced. The 'boy' will be dealt with later. A bit annoying that the 17-year-old is repeatedly referred to as a 'boy' here, even if legally he's a minor, or whatever :?

A 17-year-old boy and a 21-year-old man were detained by officers on the A174

Two people were arrested after a taxi was reportedly stolen at knifepoint in Kirkleatham.

Police received a report that a taxi had been stolen on Saturday morning and then was notified of a crash nearby, with suspects then making off from the vehicle. Cleveland Police descended on the area, with reports on social media suggesting a heavy police presence including a police helicopter circling above.

A 17-year-old boy and a 21-year-old man were detained by officers on the A174, with the boy being charged with robbery, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and with several driving offences including drug driving, driving with no licence and driving with no insurance. The 21-year-old was charged with robbery and drug driving.

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: "At around 11.05am on Saturday, police received a report that a taxi had been stolen at knifepoint in the Kirkleatham area of Redcar. Officers received a report moments later that a collision had taken place nearby, with the suspects making off from the vehicle.

"A number of police units attended to search the area, with assistance from the National Police Air Service. Shortly afterwards a 17-year-old boy and a 21-year-old man were detained by officers on the A174 near the Wilton Site.

"The 17-year-old was later charged with robbery, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and with several driving offences (drug driving, driving with no licence and driving with no insurance) and the 21-year-old was charged with robbery and drug driving.

"Both were remanded and appeared at court today on Monday, January 30, where they pleaded guilty. The 21-year-old received a 44-week sentence, and the 17-year-old was bailed from court, to be dealt with at a later date."

Seems like both were caught red-handed and pleaded guilty at court.

No real reason for any delay, other than a probation report for the youth.
