Yet another press report based on a police stop announced to the whole world via Twitter At least this time it's not a disqualified driver, and he is insured, but his driving skills not quite up to scratch M5 taxi driver transporting special needs child in fog had 'no hands on wheel' while on the phone https://www.devonlive.com/news/devon-ne ... al-8126340 Police say the motorist was using a mobile phone whilst driving in 'challenging and misty' conditions A taxi driver on the M5 who was transporting a child with special needs to school was caught with no hands on the wheel in misty conditions. Officers from Devon and Cornwall Roads Policing Team stopped the motorist this morning (February after he was spotted using a mobile phone.Police have described the incident as "totally unacceptable" and say the driver was hit with a fixed penalty notice. In a statement on Twitter, a spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Roads Policing Team wrote: "First stop of the day. A taxi taking a child with special needs to school. The driver was driving on a misty M5 whilst using his mobile phone. Totally unacceptable." A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police has subsequently added to Devon Live that the incident has been referred to the Central Ticketing Office. They will decide on if a fine and points is adequate, or if this needs to be referred to the Magistrates Court to reside over. A police spokesperson said: "We have traffic officers on our roads across the region to identify and challenge unsafe driving. This morning one officer identified a driver who was using his phone whilst behind the wheel of a taxi, with his hands not on the steering wheel whilst in challenging misty conditions on the M5. "He was pulled over and given a fixed penalty notice; this incident will now head to the Central Ticketing Office who will decide on if a fine and points is adequate, or if this needs to be referred to the Magistrates' Court to reside over." |
