Coventry Uber driver suspended after 'fake' customer review claims he was 'high on cocaine'

An Uber driver from Coventry has lashed out at a 'fake' customer review claiming he was 'high on cocaine' which he says cost him his job. Atif Khan was dismissed from Uber in November last year after what he believes was due to a customer accusing him of taking drugs.

Earlier in November, Atif was shocked to find his Uber account had been randomly 'deactivated' and he couldn't access his account. He tried contacting Uber but claimed he received no response.

A few days later, Atif was contacted by Wolverhampton Council - who hand out Uber licences - telling him he was banned from driving Ubers for drug usage following customer complaints. Atif has hit back at the allegations and insisted they were faked by a passenger looking to get a refund.

Atif has never seen any evidence against him. He has since taken a drug test and says he tested negative for substance use.

He says he has since sent the report to Uber and made multiple attempts to get in touch with the company to find a solution. However, Asif said Uber has continuously rejected his appeal.

He told CoventryLive: "Someone made fake allegations against me just to get a refund and they did that. Uber wouldn't listen to a word I say. I asked them if a customer could prove what happened, but Uber hasn't given me any response.

"I'm innocent and I'm willing to do further drug tests. t was all false allegations. I've been an Uber driver for more than eight years.

"Sometimes we'd get emails about our driving, some customers comment badly, saying it wasn't driving right, dangerous driving, we get that on Uber apps automatically. But nothing like this.

"I've done my medical report and was willing to get further drug tests such as getting my hair tested, which could could prove I've not been on any drugs up for up to a year. I've sent the drug test to Uber and nothing has happened at all.

"They say they made a decision and they're standing by their decision to terminate my partnership with Uber and and that they're not going to reverse it. I went to the hubs in Birmingham and London, and they just told me to email them. I went to the head office and no-one would come and see me."

Atif, who claims to have a 4.93 Uber star rating, has been unemployed since the incident and is now struggling to get another job. The cost of living crisis has hit him hard and he has had little success in finding work.

He has since gained his lorry driving licence, but still cannot find a job.

He said: "Being an Uber driver was my livelihood - I was living on this. I have my mortgage to pay, bills and I've got my family to feed.

"It's affected me big time. What am I meant to do? I did my lorry test and I got my lorry licence but I'm struggling to get a job because it's hard to get a job as a newly passed driver.

"It's very difficult. There's nothing I can do. I'm working with a cab company but it's not the same as Uber, it's not as busy."

A spokesman for City of Wolverhampton Council said: “Mr Khan is a private hire driver licensed with Wolverhampton City Council.”

CoventryLive has contacted Uber on a number of occasions, but the company is yet to reply.

I think the fella deserves a full response from Uber as to why he was binned.

Not telling him the real reason is not acceptable but it is the way Uber work.

Oh. So he was never actually suspended or revoked at all, then?

Changes the whole complexion of the article if it had said at the outset that he'd only been banned by Uber rather than suspended or revoked by the council.

And certainly looks unfair on the driver if what he says is true, but let's get the facts straight
