Man arrested after 'trying to abduct taxi driver' in Paisley

A MAN has been arrested after allegedly trying to abduct a taxi driver in Paisley.

It is claimed the 56-year-old passenger began acting aggressively towards the victim as the cab was travelling along Glasgow Road in Paisley at around 10pm on Thursday.

Police also claim the suspect produced a knife.

The victim, who managed to stop and get out of the vehicle, was then allegedly followed by the man on foot.

Police said the taxi driver soon returned to his vehicle and drove off.

The suspect was later traced by officers and taken into custody.

He has been charged with attempted abduction, breach of the peace and possession of a knife.

The suspect is due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court today.

Clearly we only have a brief snapshot of what is alleged to have happened, but not sure I see much in relation to an abduction.

Yes, and it's not really a charge I can recall being made before, at least as regards a passenger abducting or kidnapping a driver, rather than the other way round.

And, as Sussex says, nothing in the reported narrative to support such a charge.

But, of course, because it's so unusual, there must be more to it than as per the report :?
