A lot of this is about a related murder rather than the driver. But a careful reading reveals the extent of the (former) driver's involvement, and I'd say he was lucky to get away with a suspended sentence :-o

Also, if I had to guess I'd say the murderer in the photo here is the one on the right, but it's actually the younger looking one

A FORMER Colchester taxi driver who drove for a large scale drug operation run by an organised crime gang has been given a suspended prison sentence.

The operation involved large amounts of cocaine, heroin and cannabis and although Olusola Durojaiye initially drove members of the gang round as a legitimate taxi driver there came a time when he knew they were involved in the supply of drugs, Ipswich Crown Court heard.

“He nonetheless drove them to various houses where they were supplying drugs and to and from their home addresses,” said Edward Renvoize, prosecuting.

He said in December 2018 Durojaiye took members of the gang to Southend to buy weapons.

When they were unable to buy a machete and a sword because they were too young they called Durojaiye, who bought the weapons on their behalf, said Mr Renvoize.

The court heard Durojaiye was arrested in January 2019 for assisting members of the group to “spirit away” a 17-year-old youth following the murder of 32-year-old Daniel Saunders in Ipswich.

Mr Saunders was attacked in Turin Street, Ipswich, in December 2018 and died at the scene of the incident from a single stab wound.

Kieran Hayward, of Hasted Close, Bury St Edmunds, was found guilty of murder and having a bladed article after a trial at Ipswich Crown Court in 2019 and was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 19 years.

Durojaiye, who was living in Appleton Mews, Colchester, was found guilty with four other defendants of assisting an offender and was given a 12 month prison sentence suspended for two years, 250 hours unpaid work and a 15 day rehabilitation activity requirement.

Now Durojaiye , 37, now of Drapers End, Bedford, has admitted participating in the activities of an organised crime group between September 2018 and January 2019 .

He was given a 15 month prison sentence suspended for two years, a ten day rehabilitation activity requirement and ordered to do 150 hours unpaid work.

Damian Nolan, for Durojaiye, said his client had served in Iraq and Afghanistan and had left the army after being injured.

He said Durojaiye had lost his employment as a taxi driver and was hoping to pursue a career in project management after recently completing a Master’s degree.

Ex Colchester taxi driver sent indecent image of a child

A FORMER Colchester taxi driver who sent an indecent video of a child to his friends has admitted he needs to improve his decision making.

Police officers found the graphic video of a child “in distress” on Olusola Durojaiye’s mobile phone in Colchester.

At the time, officers were investigating another offence which the 37-year-old was subsequently sentenced for when they stumbled across the illegal content in January 2018.

Chelmsford Crown Court heard Durojaiye, previously of Appleton Mews, Colchester, had been sent the video by someone else.

“You were shocked when you received it and you distributed it to warn others without thinking it was an illegal image,” said Judge Timothy Walker, who accepted this to be true.

Judge Walker said the child in the video was of “extreme youth” and went through clear distress as a result of what happened to them.

But he added: “I do take into account your motive of sending the video to others. It was not for financial benefit or any sexual motive.”

Durojaiye admitted distributing a Category A indecent image of a child and breaching a suspended sentence in doing so.

Juliet Donovan, mitigating, said her client had served in two tours of Afghanistan in 2008 and 2009 and had left the army after being injured.

She added: “That may or may not have affected his judgement and how he approaches things.

“He simply doesn’t think of the enormity of what he is doing.

“He now recognises himself that he does need to work on his thinking skills.

“He is somebody who wants to work on self care so he is available to others to help them and himself.”

Judge Walker said Durojaiye, 37, is “old enough to have a better grip on the gravity” of what he has done.

He handed the defendant a 16 month suspended prison sentence and ordered him to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work and 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days.

Durojaiye, now of Drapers End, Bedford, must also sign the sex offenders register for ten years.
