Woman raped after getting into registered taxi as cops launch probe to find her attacker https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/23353166/ ... nch-probe/ A WOMAN has been raped after getting into a registered taxi as cops now launch a probe to find her attacker. The victim got into the cab on Paragon Street, Hull, just after midnight on Sunday. Moments into the journey, she was attacked by the driver. Humberside Police have since launched an investigation into the incident. Detective Chief Inspector Jim Clough said the woman has been left "distressed" and is now receiving support from specialist officers. He said:“The woman has understandably been left distressed and we are providing her with support alongside partnering agencies. “I know this incident will be of extreme concern to the local community, I want to offer my reassurance that over the course of the last five days, I’ve had a team of detectives conducting multiple lines of enquiry including the review of CCTV in Hull City Centre at the time to identify the vehicle concerned. “If anyone has information, no matter how small, which could be the vital piece of information we need to further our investigation and hold those responsible to account then I would urge them to come forward. “Whilst incidents of this nature remain incredibly rare, as we head into the weekend, I would urge members of the public to please remain vigilant if in the night time economy. “We have been, and continue to treat this investigation as a priority, and members of the public can expect to see an increased police presence in the city centre over the weekend as officers from our Neighbourhood Policing team step up patrols alongside Street Angels and licensing." If you have any information you can call 101 quoting investigation reference number 23*108027. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. |

Local rag is suggesting it might have been UNlicensed https://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/news/hull-east-yorkshire-news/woman-raped-after-getting-taxi-8655084 A woman was raped in what she believed was a taxi, police have said. The victim got into the vehicle, which she believed to be a registered taxi, in Paragon Street, Hull city centre, shortly after midnight last Sunday (July 30). She was raped during the journey. Detectives have been carrying out extensive inquiries. It is understood that they are working on the premise that the taxi may have been fake, though investigations are continuing. Looks like the word 'registered' came from the Humberside Police press release: Humberside Police wrote: A woman got into what she believed to be a registered taxi on Paragon Street, Hull just after midnight on Sunday, 30 July, and was subsequently raped by a man on the journey. So The Sun's piece that Sussex posted is misleading, and obviously the phrase 'what she believed to be' is a bit of a red flag. But the Hull Daily Mail's piece posted by Edders definitely doesn't take the same approach as the Sun. Including the 'scare quotes' in the headline, and the strapline, the fact that it might not be a 'taxi' is repeated five times at in the first part of the article: Woman raped after getting 'taxi' in Hull city centre Vehicle may have been a fake taxi and police are trying to track it down A woman was raped in what she believed was a taxi, police have said. ...and, of course, the reason for the scare quotes round 'taxi' in the Hull Daily Mail's headline is to draw the attention of the reader to the fact that it may not really be a taxi. But from the point of view of readers on here, the scare quotes could also mean something different, ie that the word 'taxi' is used generically, and thus might either be HC or PHV. |

No avoiding the unusual dimension to this. And which perhaps confirms that it wasn't a 'registered taxi' (assuming all three were in the car at the time) although the Humberside Police press release simply reuses the phrase 'what she believed to be registered taxi'. But to that extent, what's the betting that if it comes to trial, a high level of intoxication will be involved? Three in custody following rape in Hull City Centre https://www.humberside.police.uk/news/h ... ty-centre/ Three people have been arrested on suspicion of rape after it was reported that a woman got into what she believed to be registered taxi on Paragon Street, Hull, just after midnight on Sunday, 30 July, and was subsequently raped on the journey. Detective Chief Inspector Jim Clough leading the investigation said: “We have been carrying out extensive lines of enquiries over the course of the last week, including reviewing CCTV footage in Hull City Centre at the time to identify the vehicle concerned. “Following those enquiries, I can confirm that two people were arrested on Saturday 5 August on suspicion of rape and a third person was also arrested yesterday (Sunday 6 August) on suspicion of rape. All three remain in police custody whilst officers continue with lines of enquiry. “I know this incident will be extremely concerning for our local community; however, I hope the news of these arrests reassures the public that we have been and continue to treat this investigation as a priority. “Officers will continue to be in the area over the coming days, providing additional reassurance to the local community. I would encourage anyone with any concerns or any information to please come and speak to them. “If anyone has any information, CCTV or dashcam footage from the area around the time of the incident, that has not already spoken to the police, please contact us on our non-emergency number 101 quoting investigation reference 23*108027.” Alternatively, you can call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. |

Very surprised if it turns out to be a licensed taxi/PH. If I was to give one piece of advice to a lady on what to do when they go out at night it would be to never leave their mates. |

The BBC wrote: Three men have been charged after a woman was sexually assaulted in a taxi in Hull. Didn't notice this at the time, but that's totally inconsistent with the rest of the article in Sussex's post immediately above. It's the BBC, and quite a short article, so you'd think they'd get it right. But, of course, at least it's now confirmed that the Sun's headline at the top of the thread was bollocks. And, as I said at the time, it was misconstruing police saying that the victim got into what she believed to be a registered taxi, and then it was simply stated that she got into a registered taxi. |
