A taxi driver got stuck while trying to drive through floodwater in Gloucester. Fire services were called to the scene to rescue the vehicle last night (January 5).

A picture posted on social media shows the white taxi submerged in water on the side of the road. Police said the driver has been reported.

It comes after heavy rain from Storm Henk battered Gloucestershire in recent days, leading to flooding across the county. The Environment Agency has issued flood warnings in many areas and urged people not to drive through floodwater.

Officials have also warned people to avoid low-lying footpaths due to the likelihood of flooding. Some residents in Alney Island, near Gloucester, had to be evacuated overnight yesterday as water levels became dangerous.

Gloucestershire Police said in a post on X last night: "This taxi driver in #Gloucester has just driven through floodwater.. but got stuck. This has resulted in @Glosfire attending get them out of the car.

"Driver reported for offences. (Remember, if you drive through the water and flood your engine your insurance may not pay out!)"
