Spot what important detail is missing from the information here...

Which is important insofar as it's not clear why both MK and Bucks Councils are involved in this, and why both councils are quoted.

Apart from that, not much to see here, and typical councillor quotes regarding this kind of thing.

Private hire driver fined for having no insurance following special investigation in Milton Keynes

Passengers had little or no legal protection

A private hire driver from Milton Keynes has been fined for illegally plying for hire and having no insurance.

Mohammed Ibrahim Ali of Cullen Place in Bletchley appeared before city magistrates and was fined £200, given eight points on his license and ordered to pay £200 in court costs.

He was licenced by Transport for London (TfL) and an investigation was carried out by Milton Keynes City Council and Buckinghamshire Council.

TfL will now review his licence.

Ali pleaded guilty and was also ordered to make an £80 victim surcharge contribution.

Cllr Paul Trendall, Cabinet member responsible for Taxi Licensing at Milton Keynes City Council, said: "Licenced drivers are in a position of trust and members of the public expect that anyone driving a licenced vehicle has the correct licence and insurance to do so. This driver must take personal responsibility for the safety of everyone that he carries in his private hire vehicle.

"Illegally plying for hire and driving without appropriate insurance cover means that passengers have little or no legal protection whilst travelling in these vehicles. This case will hopefully send a powerful message to the licensed trade and clearly shows the consequences that await any licenced driver who fails to follow the law.

Cllr Mark Winn, Buckinghamshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing & Regulatory Services, said: "Council officers regularly conduct inspections and investigations to ensure that private hire drivers are complying with the rules. Protecting the public is paramount and we take all necessary action to ensure that drivers comply with the law and uphold their responsibility to keep passengers safe.

"Private hire drivers who fail to uphold these standards − including those who illegally ply for trade and drive without appropriate insurance − can expect robust enforcement action. Illegal plying for hire is a serious offence, and drivers who engage in this activity will face penalties."

So it's not stated where, precisely, the driver was caught plying for hire. He's from MK, which suggests that's where he was caught plying for hire. But the operation was jointly between MK and Bucks Councils, therefore...

I'd guess it was MK where he was caught, but the two councils probably have joint ops because of a lot of cross-border stuff going on in that neck of the woods.

But it's certainly a bit odd for two different councils to be quoted like they are in the article. Unless, of courses, it involves Wolverhampton :-o

(The article above is from a local press source, but can't find any official council stuff online, which might have provided a bit more information...)

Joint operations are quite common down here.

B&H, Lewes, Mid Sussex and Adur often go out for a night on the town.

And at Gatwick, it's like the license officers AGM sometimes.

Another one, and a slight air of mystery about it all.

But presumably it's safe to assume here that the plying for hire took place in the Milton Keynes council area, although it doesn't actually say.

And the plating authority is one I can't be bothered typing down

Another Milton Keynes taxi driver is prosecuted for serious offence

https://www.miltonkeynes.co.uk/news/peo ... ce-4491228

It’s the third case this week that’s been revealed

Another private hire driver working in Milton Keynes has been taken to court and fine for a serious offence.

Mohammed Badrul Alam, who lives in Luton, pleaded guilty at the city’s magistrates court to illegally plying for hire and having no insurance.

Her was fined £200; endorsed with 6 DVLA penalty points on his licence and ordered to pay an £80 victim surcharge and £100 costs.

His licence will now be reviewed by West Northamptonshire Council.

On Monday, two days previously, Milton Keynes City Council revealed details of another private hire driver, Mohammed Ibrahim Ali of Cullen Place in Bletchley, who had been prosecuted for identical charges.

He was fined £200, given eight points on his license and ordered to pay £200 in court costs.

Then yesterday (Tuesday it was revealed that driver Ahmed Mahmed, from Parsons Crescent in Shenley Lodge, had been punished for refusing to allow an assistance dog in his cab.

Mahmed was fined £135 and ordered to pay £492 costs plus a £54 victim surcharge. His licence will now also be reviewed.

In all three caes, the investigating authority was Milton Keynes City Council.

Cllr Paul Trendall, MKCC Cabinet Member responsible for Taxi Licensing, said: “These licensed drivers were in a position of trust and have therefore had to face the full weight of the law. Milton Keynes City Council will continue to investigate complaints and work with Buckinghamshire Council to enforce licensing and road traffic laws and put drivers before the Court(s) when appropriate to do so.”

Another soundbite-style statement. He makes it sound like if any driver broke any law then they're pulled up before the courts. Don't think so - the courts would be full of them :-o

And, again, not clear why he specifically mentions Bucks Council when it's not clear why or if the latter had any involvement in the assistance dog case, nor in this second plying for hire case - the plating authority above is a third party authority :-o

And if you think I'm being pedantic, the council here is pedantic enough to use the term 'Court(s)'
