Jail term for taxi driver rapist Khalile Maqsood

A taxi driver who subjected a passenger to a horrifying abduction and rape has been jailed for eight and a half years.

Khalile Maqsood raped the 20-year-old at knifepoint after driving her to a deserted car park in Billingham last September.

He said the young woman, who refused his advances after he picked her up as she walked alone to a party, had led him on and had been "really up for it".

But a jury at Teesside Crown Court trial rejected his not guilty plea to rape.

Sentencing at Newcastle Crown Court, Judge Rodney Jameson said he had considered imposing an indeterminate sentence for the public protection.

He said: "This young woman was obviously vulnerable and in drink.

"In her drunken and vulnerable state she obviously did not understand the danger she was placing herself in.

"She thought you were a kind and generous man and were offering her a lift out of kindness.

"You were not.

"She was an attractive young girl and you picked her up understanding she was in drink and unlikely to be in a position to resist what you were to do."

He said Maqsood, who denied rape, had shown little understanding of and no remorse for what he had done.

The judge said his "heart bled" for the family of the married father-of-four, 31.

Maqsood, of Brookfield Road, Stockton-on-Tees, spotted his victim in his taxi in Billingham in the early hours of September 10 last year.

The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, initially thought his white cab was a "lifesaver" as she walked to a party.

She said Maqsood, who was traced to Royal Cars in Stockton, pulled up and offered her a lift.

She got in but Maqsood took a series of wrong turns then stopped in a car park and turned off the engine.

She said he asked for a kiss and cuddle, which she refused, then he took her phone from her as it rang.

When she tried to take it back, he said, "If you don't do as I say, I'll stab you."

Maqsood initially denied having picked up the woman.

When confronted with DNA evidence he changed his story, admitting to having sex with the woman but claiming it was by consent.

He told detectives his victim initiated sex by stroking his leg and making suggestive comments.

He told jurors: "I'm only human at the end of the day. She'd come on to me. I made a mistake.

"I just gave in to temptation. She led me on. She consented to it. That's what she wanted."

Maqsood was also ordered to complete a sexual offenders' prevention order and sign on the sex offenders' register for life.

The cabbie, whose wife was pregnant with their fourth child when he committed the offence, was expressionless as he was led from the dock.

The court heard he had been threatened by fellow inmates while in custody and that his family had been the subject of threats and abuse.

This doesn't tell the whole story.

1st of all, this animal was not and never has been a taxi driver, he was a mini bus driver, yep a 16 seater at that! Driving on a PSV licence not a hackney licence or even a PH licence!

I do notice that it was the case that this animal picked up this poor lady off the street, this in itself is an illegal act, but of course this hasn't been reported on, indeed as far as I can tell, it wasn't even mentioned in court.

So what we see here is bad publicity towards Taxi drivers from not only the press, but from the police and our courts, with not one ounce of noise regarding them not doing their legal duty by stopping PH and mini buses from picking up fares without a booking.

Shocking crime, shocking reporting of it, and shocking policing, all are guilty of raping or allowing the victim to be raped.

The Lodger above says this person was never a taxi nor PH driver, and was driving the minibus under a PSV licence.

The report says he was a 'private hire taxi' driver who was 'operating a minibus' at the time of the incident. Maybe he had an HC or PH badge but happened to be driving a 16-seater at the time of the incident?

Anyway, this isn't particularly interesting, but a reasonably unusual report, at least for on here :?

But I'm sure Edders will be happy I bumped a 12-year-old thread rather than starting a new one [-(

Rapist Stockton taxi driver back in court over social media

A rapist taxi driver has been back in front of a judge after he set up social media accounts in false names after buying himself a new mobile phone.

Khalile Maqsood was made subject of two indefinite court orders to curb his behaviour after he was jailed for more than eight years for a knife-point rape of a customer.

A judge raised major concerns over his social media activity which came to light when he failed to attend his annual signing of the sex offenders’ register and suggested he buy himself a calendar and stay off the dark web.

The 43-year-old set up accounts on social media platforms including Facebook, Snapchat, TikTok, YouTube and Instagram as soon as he picked up his new mobile phone last year.

Philip Morley, prosecuting, told Teesside Crown Court how it was surprising that police hadn’t contacted him for a month after he failed to attend the annual signing given the serious nature of the defendant’s initial conviction.

He added: “The officer said that the accounts had been set up for a number of months and that is something that he accepted during interview.”

In 2012, Maqsood was convicted of raping a woman in Billingham while he was working as a private hire taxi driver.

He was operating a minibus at the time and committed the offence after picking up the woman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons.

He drove her to an isolated car park near Billingham town centre, at about 2.30am, where he produced a knife and threatened to use it if she did not do what he wanted.

Maqsood, of Stanley Walk, Stockton, pleaded guilty to seven failures to comply with his notification requirement order following his arrest December last year.

Nicci Horton, mitigating, said there was no evidence of her client accessing barred material but conceded that there were elements of stalking a previous partner after he bought the mobile last October.

Judge Chris Smith urged the defendant to pick up a calendar to ensure that he remembers to sign on the register as and when required.

He added: “You failed to sign the notification requirement because you forgot - I’m sceptical about that as forgetting coincided with some troubling behaviour.

“You were using a number of aliases on a variety of social media platforms.”

Maqsood was told that his indefinite SHPO and notification requirement orders would continue but with the addition of barring him from the dark web.

He added: “I don’t want him to be looking on the dark web, there’s nothing good to be found there.”

The convicted sex offender was given a ten-month prison sentence suspended for 18 months and ordered to attend 15 rehabilitation activity requirement days.

Let's hope that plays on his mind.
