Grateful for this update from the local B&H Cab Trade Ass

Trade Notice

Engine Idling Update 01/04/2024

Although the local taxi trade has persevered in trying to get the council to agree to allow engine idling on taxi ranks in extreme weather conditions, such as when it is very cold for heating or very hot for air-conditioning cooling , unfortunately the council has not agreed to this.

In fact, what the council has now insisted on is a specially designed adhesive plastic sticker which is a ‘Thermo Reactive Indicator’. This will have to be placed on the inner side of the windscreen on the driver side as a condition of licensing and is doubled faced for an Environment or Licensing Officer to also view.

In normal weather conditions the ‘TRI’ will remain static and indicate that no engine idling is allowed for heat or air-conditioning cooling, as shown in example 1.

However, engine idling will be allowed for heat or air-conditioning cooling when the ‘TRI’ automatically turns Green below zero° or above 35° as in examples 2 & 3 as shown.

The new ‘TRI’ sticker will be issued to all licensed vehicles as of April 2024 by the Licensing Department as and when vehicles are re-licensed.
