So to be top of the ballot paper you need to describe your party as "Aardvark lovers" or "1st one to vote for"

Indeed, it's just like our friends A1 Ace Taxis in Taunton in the recent WAV article - how to get yourself to the top of the Yellow Pages listings. Of course, maybe that's just not such a thing these days, for obvious reasons, but if you've changed your firm's name to get up the phone listings, you'll need a very good reason to change it again.

But I think ballot papers are normally listed alphabetically according to candidates' surnames, so obviously not so easy to manipulate.

But there are accusations that the likes of this guy started using his middle name Aaron so he could increase his chances of getting on one of the SNP's candidates list.

Apparently also self-declaring he has Tourette's Syndrome also catapulted him up the rankings :-s

But as I recall it he got absolutely nowhere

I saw something on you tube that suggested many people who voted UKIP last time are unknowns this time as well as sentiment in Scotland turning away from devolution as the wicked witch hasn't got a clue on how it would work and one or two major elements of the scottish economy are threatening to decamp to England if she forces through the vote due to the uncertainty

But if Salmond wins any seats no doubt he will align with her in Holyrood

“Align with her” is that a euphemism?

Pretty certain a significant number will go back to the Tories.

Ifi chopped off all of your fingers and thumbs I still think you would have enough to count them all.

Yes, Salmond and Alba crashed and burned. They were tipped for a few seats on the list/regional vote, but they only got 1.7%, and roughly speaking I think you need something like 6% to get a seat in one area. Even in Salmond's home territory they only got 2.3%.

At the opposite end of the independence thing, George Galloway's All For Unity outfit was also in line for a seat or two, but they only got 0.9%, and even where Galloway was standing himself they only got 1.5%. He was their only real household name candidate, so a bit of a humiliation for Gorgeous George.

To be fair they weren't allowed to take part in the TV debates etc, so to that degree they wouldn't have the same recognition factor, but that's how it works for all the minnows and independents etc.
