Is it a requirement that ops licences issued by a local authority are a matter of public record? Is the address of the holder of an operator's licence in the public domain? Please note that I am asking about the ops licence, not the driver or vehicle licence.

The operators license should have the operating address on it. That is so that people know where they can complain to as far as I am aware.

If it is an individual I'm not sure the council, under data protection laws. can publish their address details. Just the name of the firm and the fact that it is licensed.

But is there a requirement that addresses should be shown to allow complaints. Surely any complaints should be done via the council.

We are talking of Uber here, of course.

We have doubts over the location of their ops licence for vehicles licensed in the borough. The building that could be their home is outside the borough but right on the boundary. A flank boundary is the borough boundary.

The LA have refused to divulge the address on the ops licence and even refused a FOI request on the grounds that Uber fear for their safety!!! How on earth can an app fear for it's safety???

Are the LA correct?

How would a court issue legal proceedings against them without an address?

No.

If the council wont answer your FoI then I would appeal to the ICO.

Any person who uses or wishes to use a licensed private hire operator can demand to view the operators license issued by the Council.
