Post subject:  New driver having way too many problems!

Thanks for looking guys.
I am a new Hackney/private hire driver, but I'm struggling to get a vehicle.

Obviously cars need to be under 6 years old, diesel is better, estate is good. I finally found the ideal car, a 2011 Renault megane tourer 1.5 dci .

I have to have a swivel seat put in it for local council rules. But the fitter can fit one but it doesn't turn 90', only 60'!

So I obviously would not buy the car as it would not suit the council.

Is there an easier way to buy cars??

Could I buy a taxi from another licensing region to use it it my own??

Has anyone got a taxi to sell??

Any info would be great.

Thanks
Ralf

Just wondering the best way around it, as it may be starting to dawn on me that buying a car then paying £2000 to have a swivel seat put in it may not be the way forward.

But you guys can just keep bitching if you like !

Not many vehicles that can now take a swivel seat, due to the much higher centre consuls
Why does your council still insist on a swivel seat

I would be asking your council why your need one, when virtually no other council does in saloon type vehicles.
And ask them, could they supply a list of vehicles that can now have them fitted.
Email your councilor and ask the above , I bet there would be a lot of head scratching, when the question is asked at a council meeting, what about council in surrounding areas ,bet they don't need them
.

the regs....

Quote:
Type B: Standard Accessible Hackney Carriage: Vehicles with features designed to
make use by disabled people easier but which would only be able to carry a wheelchair
user who can transfer to a HC seat.

This will include some saloon vehicles, estate cars and
MPVs with at least one new priority rotating or swivel seat fitted by an approved
manufacturer/installer.

All vehicles must comply with the relevant type approval for such vehicles.
 European Whole Vehicle Type approval;
 British National Type approval; or
 British Single Vehicle Approval.
 Full European Type Approval for a special purpose wheelchair accessible
vehicle
It is also recommended that vehicles with Euro NCAP star ratings of four or more should
be considered when purchasing a new vehicle.
