Hi Normally check all the levels and electrics after you will need to test drive it (from cold preferably)you are looking/listening for gearbox slipping, rear axle noises and knocking noises/smoke from the engine. Lift the bonnet and lock the bonnet stay in the up position then rock the front edge of the bonnet. While doing the look at the area below the back edge of the battery for movement. If there is movement between the inner wing and bulkhead area the this will need to be welded. To check the other side get someone to press and depress the brake pedal and look for the same movement on the drivers side. If you get a chance to get the taxi in the air have a look at the chassis/ rear shock absorber mounting points for cracks in the chassis These are the big money items. The rest will normally be cheaper items which you would normally change during normal servicing i.e brakes, shock absorbers, road springs, ball joints, loose front wings They pretty much all suffer from water leaks around the hire sign, windscreen, wiperspindles, and so on . I hope this helps Regards Mike |

Fairawys seem to rust just about everywhere. In a competition for the rustiest cars ever designed they woudn't be far behind the Vauxhall Victors. |
