Britain’s Covid-19 vaccines may stop people passing on the virus “almost completely”, the head of immunisation at Public Health England has confirmed.

Dr Mary Ramsay said grounds for hope that vaccination may achieve the holy grail of halting community transmission were emerging from new studies. “What we don’t yet know is how long that might last and whether or not that will be enough to stop the infection spreading more widely in the population over time,” she told Radio 4’s Today on Tuesday. “But there’s really very good signs that this is going to at least reduce infection rates across the population, and hopefully ... prevent people passing it on almost completely if they’ve been vaccinated fully.”

From the Telegraph :

Children's return to school hasn't led to rise in infections, figures show

Children returning to school has not led to a rise in Covid infections, as the first data shows just 0.05 per cent of secondary students tested positive.

Of the 2,762,775 lateral flow tests that were carried out on secondary pupils, just 1,324 were positive, according to the first official figures.

A detailed analysis by Prof Jon Deeks, an expert in biostatistics at Birmingham University, has found that the number of positive cases among pupils are far lower than ministers expected.

Over half of the adult UK population have had at least one dose of vaccine.

And yesterday over 700,000 doses of vaccine were administered. On it's own more than 1% of the UK population.

Well done to everyone involved.

Vaccinations had saved more than 6,000 lives in the UK by the end of February, Matt Hancock has revealed, saying he now believes he can see an end to the crisis where Covid-19 could be treated like flu and dealt with via top-up vaccines.

1 dose is all very well BUT to beat this we need all he highly vulnerable to get their second dose and at the moment that is less than 10 percent of those vaccinated

and that will be important for restarting the economy because airport travel entertainment venues etc. will rely on lots of people having vaccine passports and you don't get one of them till you are fully vaccinated

And about 80% of all deaths have come from that 10%.

Do vaccine passports already exist? If not, what date has been announced for when they will exist?

government hasn't said but I suspect it will depend on what the tourist hotspot countries decide they want although I believe once you are fully vaccinated you get some sort of document to that effect

I saw something the other day about cruise companies who are doing round uk cruises this year but to book you must have had both doses of vaccine or the single dose Modena vaccine

I think insurance passports will come before anything the Gov does.
