A MAN launched an unprovoked attack on three people after being declined entry to a taxi.

Nathan Kendrick, of Wheat Close in Gwersyllt, appeared at Caernarfon Crown Court for sentence on Friday afternoon.

The 29-year-old had previously admitted two counts of criminal damage and two of assaulting a police officer.

He'd been convicted in his absence of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and was also to be sentenced for failing to surrender to bail.

Frances Wilmott, prosecuting, told the court that on the morning of September 21, 2021, victim Kingsley Crawford was working at the office of A1 Taxis in Brynteg.

Kendrick entered the office asking for a taxi and a driver agreed to do the job.

But it became apparent that Kendrick was not the only one travelling - he wanted the driver to take a "very drunk lady" as well.

But due to her level of intoxication, and fearing the woman would "soil the taxi," the service was declined.

Kendrick became upset at that, and attempted to stop taxis in the road outside.

He returned inside and "went" for Mr Crawford, punching the victim and causing him to fall to the floor, before repeatedly punching and kicking him.

After some time he knelt on Mr Crawford, who was overpowered and struggling to breathe and left the premises.

Kendrick later realised he'd left his phone behind and returned to find the office locked.

He punched and kicked the door, damaging it.

Mr Crawford had to take two weeks off work after suffering injuries to his head and eye.

Police located Kendrick and arrested him - but the defendant became aggressive, pulling one officer down a set of stairs and causing him to sprain his ankle.

He headbutted another officer whilst laughing, then repeatedly headbutted the police car door, damaging it.

When he was to stand trial for the assault occasioning actual bodily harm against Mr Crawford, Kendrick didn't turn up in a "deliberate attempt to evade" the proceedings.

Richard Edwards, defending, said: "The defendant understands that the only option available to the court is custody - the only question is one of length.

"Alcohol has clearly been an issue for this defendant, as it was in the offences before the court.

"He is going to face a period of forced abstinence and that can only be of assistance to him.

"He can only apologise for his behaviour."

Judge Niclas Parry said: "You carried out a sustained and violent attack on a working man in the presence of a female member of staff who was terrified.

"These were people simply trying to help you and explain why they couldn't offer you the service you required.

"You wanted them to take a lady so intoxicated in the morning that they feared she'd soil the taxi."

In total, the Judge jailed Kendrick for two years.
