This kind of thing might not be popular with some on here. But not surprised there are objections - T2 flag of £6.75 and £5.25 for the running mile?

And the likes of Clitheroe won't be overrun with wealthy punters who won't care about this kind of thing, I'd guess.

Bet there's a lot of discounting and negotiating going on on the ranks - thus a recipe for confusion and conflict :?

Councillors to debate possible taxi fares drop in East Lancs borough

https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/n ... s-borough/

TAXI customers in an East Lancs borough could be looking at a fare drops for a ride home after a night out.

Councillors in the Ribble Valley are set to debate a possible cut in the night-time rates for Hackney carriages.

But at an annual taxis meeting, trade representatives expressed concerns over the fares to be levied after midnight or on special occasions such as Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, agreed in 2022.

Members of the borough's licensing committee have been told customers had raised gripes about the 50 per cent hike in prices on such occasions.

Borough solicitor Stephen Barker said in a committee report that "they (drivers) considered that £6.75 for the first mile and £1.05 for each fifth of a mile thereafter was too high.

"These figures were calculated on the basis of the standard day rate plus an uplift of 50 per cent, which was the same formula as had applied from 2006 to 2022.

"The representatives requested consideration be given to reduction of the uplift, although they did not indicate what level of uplift they considered to be reasonable."

Licensing officials have gauged Ribble Valley's rates against other north-west authorities and found their pricing structures varied - though the likes of Rossendale, Lancaster and North Yorkshire had imposed similar 50 per cent uplifts.

Others who have lesser hikes tended to charge between 20 to 33 per cent more, said Mr Barker's report.

"The issue which has to be considered is the concern expressed by customers to Hackney carriage drivers. The Hackney carriage representatives requested that the uplift be reviewed due to this customer concern," he added.

The committee will meet on Wednesday to debate any possible changes.

If new fares were agreed they would need to be advertised first to consider any possible objections.

They 'found' that 'pricing structures varied' across authorities? Who'd have expected that? :-o

I mean, they're bound to vary, because otherwise, guess whose jobs would effectively be redundant if every council did the same as regards stuff like this? 8-[

Surprise they're all %age uplifts, though - none simply have a fixed increase on the flagfall, thus a fixed increase regardless of distance? :?

One wonders how much those concerned councillors would be paying for a plumber or roofer on those days?

Sussex, easy to be distracted by the mention of Christmas and New Year, but it's the normal T2, although it doesn't apply till midnight :-o

And since I've plenty of time on my hands, I actually checked the tariff card to make sure...

The mention of Christmas and New Year's eve is about the fact that on those days, the normal T2 is brought forward to 7pm.

In fact, the full Christmas and New Year tariff is £9.00 flag plus a £7.00 running mile :-o

Grateful for you checking. :D

Meter and a half for late night tariffs are not uncommon though.

Two of the three councils bordering B&H have that as their night time rate.

Sussex, indeed 50% T2 uplifts don't seem uncommon. But I suspect the issue in Ribble Valley is that T1 is already a £4.50 flag, and £3.50 running mile, therefore... :-o
