Sounds a bit odd - the deceased was sitting on a church wall, and the 'taxi' struck him while U-turning.

Sounds potentially like one of those 'there for the grace of God go I' kind of scenarios :-|

Appeal after man dies following collision in Handsworth

https://www.westmidlands.police.uk/news ... andsworth/

We are appealing for information following a collision in Handsworth involving a taxi and an 80-year-old pedestrian who has since sadly died.

The collision took place at around 5.25pm on Wednesday (2 July) on St James Road.

The man was sat on a wall at the church when he was struck by a taxi which was in the process of doing a U-turn. He suffered serious injuries to his leg and was rushed to hospital where his condition deteriorated. He sadly died on yesterday (Friday 4 July).

We are supporting the man’s family during this extremely difficult time. The driver of the vehicle is currently helping us with our enquiries.

Sergeant Richard Evans, from our Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We would appeal for witnesses or anyone who may have any dashcam footage of the incident to come forward.

“We would particularly like to trace the owner of a second vehicle which pulled into St James Road and may have seen the taxi which was a grey, silver VW Touran, conducting a U-turn in front of them.”

People with information should ring 101 quoting log number 4650 of 2 July or email sciu@westmidlands.police.uk.

This looks like the locus here - certainly seems to be plenty of room for safe turning in relation to anyone sitting on that wall, but who knows what happened :?

Think it's also safe to say it was the driver's fault.

Whether it actually was or not, in the view of the authorities, is irrelevant.
