I am fluent in GMB talk so can understand.
If the drivers says he is not doing a job for x price, the company just say "thats the fare, if you don't like it, leave".
The company pay what they like, and the drivers cannot do anything about it. As I have said before, there are loads of drivers out there.
GMB, please don't give me the union crap about how you can do something about it, companies can pay what they like, simple.

well in my experience companies are buying work i.e undercut other firms to make themselves busy hence when a driver comes to enquire about a start they invite them at busiest time of day so the driver gets bluffed into thinking he/she is on a good earner, at the expense of existing drivers. sucks does'nt it???

Rambo what makes you any different to the office cleaner, the building worker, the hospital porter only your reluctance to stand up for yourself.and so you suffer, strange because ive no doubt you showed courage in the RGJ,why not now ,because you feel isolated,Other workers succesfully confront this situation, and in this industry.Tell me when all the drivers and controllers walk out do you not think the burke that runs your outfit will NEGOTIATE while his account customers are screaming on the phone.Of course he will and the LAW is on your side,so we put him in one of Her Majestys courts ironic EH??????????????

Agree with you Ulster.
GMB, if me and all the drivers walked out my boss would have replacements within 24hrs, i know it, the drivers know it and he knows it.
Have you ever tried getting drivers to stick together?.

Rambo yes at Tristar for one where we forced the company through legal process to have a ballot on union recognition, which we walked over 75% voting for union recognition. We are now in the third year of agreements and have made considerable improvements.Ar other companies the threat of process has been enough to achieve union rec, which of course guarantees holidat pay amongst other things. So there you are.as for your guv being able to replace all his drivers and controllers,i suggest sphericals, definitely after Dec 31st,no chance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It would help if companies where to pay the basic minimum wage, and I think I'm correct that will shortly be £5.45 per hour, then if the driver earns more he gets more, We are about the only industry that pays a pittance, I know that for a fact drivers in my area are getting less than £3.00 per hour for a 70 hour week, and they have been told like it or bog off, most get a split bag 40 60 so they are left to struggle as there are next to no other jobs to be had in the borders.
The other thing that does not help are the councils handing out plates to anyone that wants one, they do here, more cabs less work, last count 86 in 1 zone alone,

I think the only way is for the drivers to blank it, very hard, or for the punters to insist that X% goes to the drivers, again very hard.

The bit that I can't work out with your firm is how he can get drivers so easy. Ten maybe twenty thousand old mincab drivers didn't get licensed, so where does he get his endless supply from?

The courier has bundles of adverts for drivers, so what do those firm do that your bloke doesn't? That said hopefully after Jan 1st, the supply of drivers will ease up.
