If you have an old Pink Paper Drivers Licence with points that are now spent..can you send it away and get another paper licence in its place without having to get a new Photo Licence. Or can you just leave the Penalty points on the old paper licence knowing that they are spent and no longer count as current...or would this just screw things up with Insurance companies??

DVLA no longer issue paper licences. Photo type only.

You can just leave the points on your license. They all have a date next to them so you will have no problem with your insurance. I have one of the green paper ones and it is just about holding together with the help of sticky tape but I refuse to get one of the photocard ones because you have to renew them every 10 years.

Don't forget, the points come off from the date of the alleged offence and not the conviction date

Yes but if you still have the old green license or the even older pink license you can still use them to hire a vehicle. :D

Don't be a dick. The counterpart (paper bit) comes with it.

Insurance companies are not permitted to take into account spent points.

Thanks for the Various advice...tis not my Licence ( I already have a photo Licence)...However its her that must be obeyed's licence and her Penalty points Became spent In october but she Does,nt fancy the Idea of a Photo licence. So i guess if it Doesnt B*gger things up with Taxi Licence Applications or Insurance Renewals it may be just as easy to let them stay put.

I still have the green paper licence. It hasn't affected me in the slightest except on the rare occasion that I've needed photo ID, but a passport is good enough for that.

The space for points is getting smaller though!!

Also, if she gets a new photo licence make sure she takes a copy of her old licence before surrender. Existing 'grandfather' rights have been known to disappear in the transition.
