Loads of places around Heathrow. Don't worry about 'fines' in the likes of McDonald's, etc. http://www.pepipoo.com will show you how to deal with those. Same applies at JLA.

Yes, often the car park company in question (Euro Car Parks, APCOA, CP Plus etc), send out three letters or so over a course of a few months, with increasing amounts to pay, each time.

After that, they then employ a "debt collection agency", to send out a further three or four letters, with increasing amounts of red colour, and amounts to pay, each time.

The letters will then stop coming after 6 months to a year or so.

They go straight into the bin, when I receive any.

Please note, however that any tickets received from the police and council (and be aware some of the private car park firms e.g. APCOA do work for some councils), you can't ignore and need to be acted upon.

Saw on one of those undercover investigative programmes one of the companies saying it costs £1000 to take someone to court for a parking fine and they can't claim that back, so they don't bother. So rather than spend £1000 to get back a £100 fine they just keep sending threatening letters and hope you pay up.

That's not been the case for about 2 years now.

You get a ticket, and then you appeal direct, they refuse and then you appeal to Popla or the other appeal service. This costs the ticket company £30 ish, and you nothing.

If you win the appeal, great, if you don't then you keep all your letters just in case you are the one in 10 that they take to court.

All the above is set out in massive detail on pepipoo and Money saving expert.

At Heathrow the petrol station on the way to T4 is ok.

Else it's MacDonalds near the other terminals, or the service station at Cobham.

In that case, I should've been to court 3 or 4 times by now. :D

I reckon it's more like 1 in 100.

I look forward to when it's my turn.

See how much "damages" or "loss of income" they're able to claim.

The Cobham Services is too risky as it's a fair distance from Heathrow.

Today they closed the M25 around there, as there were some illegal immigrants escaped from a lorry and were running around the carriageway. Wouldn't want to be stuck in the queue for an hour or so, whilst your passenger is about to land.

Most of the petrol stations (BP Hatton Cross, Texaco Bath Rd, Esso Southern Perimeter Rd) are full of Uber drivers waiting for an airport pick up (including the cafe I mentioned, but there's usually room in the car park).

Need to go just outside the airport boundary such as the Tesco in Feltham, or there's a new Asda opening in Hayes this month.

I don't do Heathrow pick ups during rush hour.

Though the example I gave about the illegal immigrants which closed the M25 for an hour, happened at 1pm in the afternoon, with accidents and other incidents can obviously happen at any time. Furthermore, roadworks which start at about 9 to 10pm on that particular stretch on the M25, which just leave one or two lanes, can also cause tailbacks. Maybe you're just lucky :)

Most.

That's how these private car park companies make their money by intimidating drivers into paying up with their seemingly threatening letters. It's very easy for a family with young children, for example, to easily go over an hour without realising, until the official looking "Parking Charge Notice" comes through the post.

The ones who ignore, or persistently hassle them, they just ignore, and are highly unlikely to chase that small percentage of people through a court.
