Even the then PM's misses couldn't elicit support from the courts for cross border hiring. :D

Shanks - v- North Tyneside 'cross border hirings'.

Nowadays 9 out of every 10 cars from this shady outfit are wearing Berwick plates with their expiry dates Tippexed out, and more often than not they are illegally plying for hire around Newcastle. Most of their drivers don't know a single street in Berwick, even those who can speak English. 8) 8) 8) I'm sure when Michael Nesmith's mother invented "Liquid Paper", she would have had no idea that one day these morons would be one of the main users

Obviously you have not had your eyes tested lately   Its more like one out of ten.
Also how come they are a shady outfit as they have fully licensed drivers and probably have the biggest share of the market on tyneside :?

Oh but they are a shady outfit because they are allowing their drivers to pick up anyone who approaches their vehicles which are more often than not wearing Berwick Plates and you know it !!! The only reason they have such a "market share" is because they are hacking the nuts off Newcastle City Centre and you know it !!! It is you who needs your eyes testing, just have a look around certain hotspots and there are lots of them trying to steal fares which then results in blanks for legitimately booked Private Hire Vehicles from reputable companies, and you know it !!! 8) 8) 8)

Simple solution, deregulate the Taxis in Newcastle reduce the price for the plates and I wouldn't mind betting that most of the Berwick drivers would come into 'the fold'.
