“We don’t yet know how much it could be raised by but I don’t think it would be a huge increase. I suppose if we give it the go-ahead we will look like the bad guys and it’s fair to say that it’s likely young people and students will be affected.”

James McAsh, president of Edinburgh University Students’ Association, said: “I think services like transport that students use should be as cheap as possible and a suggested increase in price is not a good thing for students. But it won’t just be students but a lot of young professionals as well.”

Paul Waterstone, of Scottish Licensed Trade Association, said the price hike could adversely impact on the night-time economy.

He said: “It will hit young people disproportionately and it’s a difficult time for the night-time economy already. I think there’s always a problem with people getting home at night but I’m not sure putting the prices up will make more taxi drivers come out and work.

“At a time when we are trying to get people out into city centres it seems to be a bit strange to consider putting tariffs up.” #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o

It's a terrible idea. Playing right into PH hands.

"ME ME ME"

Another press story telling customers they're just a cash cow. And feckwits on this forum like A&T saying its more cash for his coffers.

3.6% will trigger higher rentals.

It will also allow an excuse to increase circuit fees.

Drivers will likely earn little more - but then that is the lot of serfs under the yoke of an SNP regime.

However, I do agree the party tariff is a good idea for some. It will provide the best incentive ever for those who book private hire at weekend peak periods to actually wait until they turn up and get into them. Less bogeys for PH drivers has to be good for them. I do hope they remember to thank the taxi trade barons for their largesse.

As for a £50 spoiling fee. What chance have you got of getting that. The cops won't help you. because its a civil matter between you and the customer. And, unable to take them to the cops what are you gonna do? Lock them in, and for what purpose? And be charged by the cops who won't help you for kidnapping? It is effectively unenforceable with any passenger who tells you to sling your hook.

Perhaps part of the problem is that the criminally insane gurus who have inveigled themselves into positions of influence no longer actually drive taxis. They're languishing on their 30 grand plus paychecks, plus extortionate expenses, paid for by members, while someone else does the hard work in their taxi on the front line.

Their incentive for any of these price hikes is just so they can charge more to their serfs.

Another trade own goal. And another 50 PH added to the big fleet on the back of it.

=D>

Having to answer your own question proves just how psychologically damaged you are.

Saddo!

Yeah, but it's like the telly. You don't like it you can switch off. No one's being forced here.

And while much of it may be borlocks, it is to some degree entertaing.

Like A&T telling us that competition is healthy, so long as he doesn't have to compete.

Lassez faire comes to mind.

The problem is those whose names are on the deeds, so to speak, can't just switch off.

I would be as happy as Larry if it was just banter, but some of the stuff is highly personal.

Naming people as doing this that and the other might seem fun, it's more than likely true, but admin can't take the risk that it isn't.

I think everyone should just think for more than a millisecond before they press the submit button, but please no real names, and no homophobic slurs.

Alex

Alex give them a yellow card and if they persist ban the individuals who are doing it

Oh and Longshanks, the Halcrow survey is an irrelevance as it doesn't look at customer demand and how it's being met by other transport groups, which have grown out of taxi restriction. You are failing to compete, me auld mucker. All Halcrow proves is that you are losing your presence in the market and your competitors are taking all your work. #-o #-o #-o Think about it? #-o

Fact is these surveys are bogus.

The council sets the questions to get the results it wants. And the tendered company delivers, it has no real choice.

And the questions exclude a real analysis of peak periods.

The council also relies on evidence submitted by the companies. And we know that these figures have been falsified in the past. Even to the point where, in their desperation to come up with random and reasonable numbers, personal plate, address and other numbers were slotted in. Again, this evidence was accepted by the committee although it had not been properly audited. And those offering the data had a vested interest to submit data that ensured that vested interest was protected.

The committee has never asked any searching questions about how the data was gathered or interpreted, because councillors are subservient to the policy. Even if councillors had doubts about the veracity of the information before it, they are not empowered to buck the policy. This is not a fair process.

fact is, there is only one litmus test for demand, and that's market forces.

Unrestricted London, professional widely respected cabbies.

Restricted where cabbies are held in such high regard customers are deserting them in droves.

Doesn't it all speak for itself?

This post has been changed!!! I quoted a comment from "Kaiser Soze" where he said something about "niggers", a definite racist slur, there was never no serfs mentioned, only Mcnggers....Who removed or changed this? The reading was very uncofortable and why I made a comment and wrote my people hating rant towards Soze.
What has happend???????????
Someone is trying to cover things up me thinks.

I am so sorry, I did not know that it was okay to take the pish out of vunerable people down your way. I bet you still use words like spaz and mong.
Say what you like, but do not use racist views or disabled people to try and add weight to your psih.
