Sussex posted a link to this in another thread, but it's quite an interesting article, so just putting it here for the record.

Video on the website, although doesn't add much to the photo below, and there's no audio, which would make it more interesting, but of course that would identify the pair

Taxi driver videos passengers doing 'drug deal' in the back of his car

The taxi driver said he could hear the passengers talking about 'charlie'

A taxi driver has shared footage of a 'drug deal' taking place in the back of his car and says this is "a regular occurrence" while picking up fares across Merseyside.

The taxi driver, who has asked not to be named, said he captured the footage three weeks ago while out driving in his private hire vehicle in Kensington.

He told the ECHO: "I picked the guy up in Botanic Road and they said to take him to the Kensington area.

"A girl jumped in and he told me to drive around five minutes and then drop the girl off and later him at the same place.

"I didn't know what was going on then I heard the conversation and they used the slang 'charlie'

The taxi driver, who also contacted the ECHO recently after being racially abused while refusing to pick up an illegal fare in New Brighton in Wirral says his reaction was "surprise".

However, he also says that he has noticed, since starting driving private hire taxis six months ago, that several fares he has picked up appear to be dealing drugs in the back of his vehicle.

He said: "My reaction was surprise at how openly they'd do that but it does happen regularly.

"Once or twice a day I could smell the weed or I hear some code conversations.

"It's happening every day 24 hours a day, anytime.

"I could write a book about what I've seen.

He added: "Something needs to be done about it."

The footage has been sent to Merseyside Police.

This is one reason it's quite interesting. Like Sussex, this driver in the comments doesn't think the video should have been sent to the Echo. But his rationale is a bit different to Sussex's [-(

(The three comments are all from the same driver. Or at least he claims he's a driver 8-[ )

Quote:
They are deltas customers not yours you are probably earning good money from deltas customers and now your doing this it's clearly you are the one that's out of order here.

Quote:
A taxi driver has a priority to serve and protect his customers you should be ashamed of this

I was embarrassed and raging watching this

Quote:
Should stick to stacking shelves for 1 it's his job to take them from A to B for 2 it's none of his business for what his customers are using public transport for and for 3 did he get paid for this fair and fanially 4 write a book after 6 months I've been transporting passengers for 16 years now whilst they are in your cab and they are paying your wage are you really bothered what they are up to , was they a concern to the public the answer is no they were a concern to themselves and for 5 wait till them lads see you again

Good luck in your new job

But who said the driver worked for Delta? :-o

bearing in mind the number of stories on here of drivers from the Merseyside area being caught drug dealing or couriering maybe there's a few in the trade want this kept quiet and are not amused at the drivers actions.

Like it or not the taxi trade whether willingly or unwillingly get regularly dragged into the murky world of drugs

also I think there is probably good cause for this driver to be reported to the data regulator so they need to keep a close watch over their shoulder on more than one front !

Using the taxi/PH trade as part of the drug dealing industry is rife throughout the UK.

We recently had a number of drivers lose their licenses, and one his hackney plate, for being part of drug dealing team.

But I suspect this is only the tip of the iceberg.

However the police are not stupid, and drivers generally can't keep their gobs shut, so I say to those drivers involved in this trade, even if they do it by claiming naivety/stupidity, there is no future other than jail or being booted out of the trade.

So FFS stop it. [-X
