DOUBLE TROUBLE: Woking taxi seized after driver found using phone and uninsured

https://www.taxi-point.co.uk/post/doubl ... -uninsured

...or at least that's the TaxiPoint headline, but of course a lot of people on here will be immediately aware from the photo that it very probably isn't a Woking taxi, but a Guildford-plated car stopped in Woking :-o

(Woking is only eight miles or so from Guildford, but are separate licensing councils, and surely both don't have that particular colour code, which I'm 99.9% certain is Guildford's  )

And below the photo is the Facebook post which seems to be the source of the TaxiPoint article above.

The driver of this taxi was stopped by #VanguardRST officers for using their phone whilst driving in Woking. Checks revealed, the driver—not operating as a taxi at the time of the stop—was uninsured.

The driver stated that he was 'moving the car to a garage for a friend' and was summoned and vehicle seized.

Saw this in the comments, which makes sense from the insurance angle, and I can't remember what the details of all this is in terms of badging and insurance requirements, but I'm sure someone on here will know :-o

So if the second comment is true then the official Facebook post is a tad inaccurate, since it implies the driver was badged but off-duty, as opposed to someone without a badge at all :?

I do wonder whether Guildford background check drivers or are they unchecked like Deliveroo drivers?

Any smart person would know the council would not even issue a licence without the driver holding a valid insurance.

The car was in the repair centre and one of their workers was driving the car today and stopped by the police. Nothing to do with the taxi driver.

Which raises the question of how a HC can ever be driven by a garage during repairs or maintenance when the law states that only an HC licence holder can drive a HC.

There is an exemption for mechanics, but I suspect the fella driving this cab was a mate of the licensed driver.

Mechanic after repairs or service can road test a HC without being a licensed HC driver.
