At the end of the day taxis have been delivering parcels for donkeys years, and if they were not allowed to carry them why would the London cab act say
A
MOTOR CABs HIRED FOR LUGGAGE AND ANIMALS UNACCOMPANIED BY PASSENGERS
42. The scales prescribed in this Part of this Order for the hiring of a motor cab and for extra charges for luggage and animals shall apply in any case where the driver ofa motor cab accepts a hiring for the carriage of articles of luggage or packages or animals unaccompanied by any person in like manner as if one person were carried in the cab with the said articles or packages or animals : provided that the cab-driver shall not be compelled to accept such a hiring.
And
B
HORSE CABs HIRED FOR LUGGAGE UNACCOMPANIED BY PASSENGERS
SO. The scales prescribed in this Part of this Order for the hiring of a horse cab by distance (including the hiring charge), and for extra charges for waiting at the request of the hirer, and for luggage, shall apply in any case where the driver of a horse cab accepts a hiring for the carriage of articles of luggage or packages unaccompanied by any person in like manner as if one person were carried in the cab with the said articles or packages : provided that the cab-driver shall not be compelled to accept such a hiring.

So there you are proof that taxis have been doing parcels for donkeys years.

Thank you for that, I will send a copy to the council and await their response.
I expect their response will be something along the lines of "that only applies in London" and a reiteration of their policy.

Another thing that just popped into my head is a regular kind of job we have at supermarkets.

A fella or a girl comes out with a trolley load of stuff, helps you load it and then gets on their motorbike and you follow them home with their shopping.

Is Grandad's basket case council saying that's illegal?

And another job our firm has is picking up empty (of punters) mobility scooters from Shop Mobility, who's battery has gone flat.

Usually the punters get the bus or a cab back and leave the scooter for one of our WAVs to return it.

Is Grandad's nutty council saying that's illegal?

Is returning lost goods back to punters for payment also illegal?

Nutty as a f***ing fruitcake that council and the muppets working there. ](*,)

Oh yes in a Hackney, not in a PH.

Not entirely, but the payment can only be 5 pence in the pound of the value up to a maximum of £5.00 or we can take the items to the nearest police station.
I did question if this breached their policy but was informed that lost property is not the same.

Ever since I started this trade I've taken medicine and medical equipment all over the place.

A few years bad I did loads of prescription runs, and still do them now from time to time.

How many of us pick up food from takeaways?

Yet Grandad's nutty council say all the above is illegal. ](*,)

Pillock. We are just getting on with it. We are hoping that the Council will take one of us to court over it. That doesn't mean we have to stop trying to get the stupid condition removed.

I get that, but many many areas have mixed fleets.

The one thing that comes out of this is if I pick a passenger up from Manchester and he's has a parcel, let's say a very valuable vase inside worth thousands, and we have an accident, who pays for the broken vase ? I'm not interested in comments well he shouldn't have been in a taxi with something so valuable.
Taxis have been carrying parcels for donkeys years, so is it insured, and I know I can get GIT, but why is it not included on standard insurance? Or is it?
