I came out of the Intercontinental this morning at about 09.30 and walked up Park lane to the garage by the BMW showroom. I was amazed howmany cabs were sat around in the sunshine. I counted over 60 by the time I past the Grosvenor.

Couldn't believe how many were out and about that early on a Sunday.
Piccadilly 2 o'clock this morning lit up like a Christmas tree. Never seen so many yellow lights in my life.

Surely the PCO don't let out drivers, the drivers just pass the knowledge.
You get out when they want you to get out.

I find the troubles in London, although some would say there are no troubles, is the fact the PCO are just dishing out PHV licenses to any one with the money. It has just been publicised that over a third of the Private hire drivers have not taken a British driving test and are currently using foreign ones. As most of the drivers come from third world countries how can this be right?

Well it's not right, but Rome wasn't built in a day.

It wasn't too long ago when convicted rapists and murderers could drive a minicab. :?

Well that applies to cab drivers as well.

I am not sure if I put this on this site or another one that I use, so it goes like this.

In the space of two weeks I spoke to two ladies from India and one gentleman from S.Africa,we got to talking about driving tests in their respective countries. I asked them what did they have to do to pass their tests, in all three cases they said ( none of them knew each other ) - IT DEPENDS HOW BIG THE BRIBE IS    well! I am not really shocked because it would explain why some dumb ar$e is dawdling down the road at 15/20 mph.

I have no doubt that the only driving experience that some have from the Eastern Bloc is some tank or army vehicle. The other thing that comes out of it is that if stopped and asked to produce ones licence - how would you know what it is supposed to look like.

They still can 45000 vehicles licensed 38000 drivers licensed
I found out that at the moment the driver does not have to have a PHV license to drive a PHV, although this issue is currently under revue with TFL.

It's market forces that govern the amount of Minicab drivers in London. If they're happy to work 7 days a week for 12 hours a day, great.

But that's why so many leave the Minicab trade, and that's why they now have to recruit from Bosnia and beyond.

Here's a little question for you, asuming your a London Taxi driver Mr A, how many Taxi drivers have you known that have left our side of the trade to become a Minicab driver? Say in . . . 36 years?

Didn't Dial-a-Cab buy some limos and get cab drivers to drive them via their new PH licenses? :-k
