Basically I dont want to plate two hackney cabs is beacuse of the cost of buying them but I was just stating a point as to how stupid the council are!

I have now applied for planning for two vehicles that will both be operated in my name, so I will just have to wait and see if any of my neighbours object, hopefully none will but I am guessing one of them will.

I was told by planning that if my application fails for two vehicles I can reapply for one vehicle at no extra charge so I might think about a large hackney then, have to wait and see now!

You can always apply for planning permission at another address and use it as your Registered Office.

Well thats what I was thinking when I went looking for premises to use as an office.

But after looking around and finding somewhere to operate from for £50 per week I was told I needed to get planning permission to use a taxi office! So I thought if I have to have planning why not have it on my house to start with and save the £50 per week, then use that money to buy an 8 seater mini bus!

I forgot to add the 'idiot factor' into the equation; the 'idiot factor' being the council with there outdated ideas!

Heres a question? How come its very difficult for me to run 2 cars from my home when I drive them both, but it is very easy to get planning for a massive shopping now being built? The centre has had an old bridge demolished roads re routed and it is huge and looks an eyesore from quite far?

The answer? Easy: Money, they got it I aint!!!!

You could always plate a couple of saloon cars as hacks in Berwick.
It seems to be popular.............

You can apply for planning permission at somebody else's address..... a friends may be... you don't have to own or rent a property to apply....... if I remember rightly just recently a lady has applied for planning permission to knock down the mansion of the person that owns Tesco .... just to show him what it's like.

mr wrexham, have you asked the local gestapo, sorry, council if you need PP to operate as a hackney, just to see what they say

some councils have a PH "ops licence" - nice extra earner for sod all, but not for hackney's

I think all your councils have PH ops licenses - it's in the legislation, although up here in Scotland we don't have ops licenses, just driver and vehicles are licensed.

As for planning permission, I can't really see any difference between PH and HC, and I would be surprised if your councils do as well - it's a planning issue, which is entirely separate from licensing.

The planning rules don't seem that daft to me - after all, even if you only have one car then it could well be coming and going at all hours of the night and day, and it hardly seems unreasonable for people to object to this, and of course if there's more than one car then the situation can get out of hand.

A taxi (HC) office in St Andrews was sold last year, and the buyer just bought the cars and thought he could run it from his home and dispense with the previous office premises. This was in a very quiet street (I suspect that at night you could go hours without one car travelling along it) but suddenly there were taxis parked everywhere and cars and people coming and going all night (they had about ten cars or so) and it was all over the local papers.

Of course, the planning rules may seem cumbersome, but if the taxi is basically just used for coming and going at the end of shifts/meal breaks then it shouldn't be a problem, but clearly councils have to consider other people when they look at these things, and the rules are there for good reason.

The thing about planning permission is, that in order to execute the plans you need authorisation. I don't know anyone that would allow their home to be turned into a 24 hour private hire office, for the sake of charity. Do you?

Here, you can run a company from home without planning consent so long as there's only 1 PH.
Fortunatly, the LA departments don't talk to each other and it's not noticed if you add a few cars to your license.
Then, when you've got enough cars to generate a bit of cash... get an office.

We don't need planning consent to hold a OL from home for 1 car.
Fortunatly, the LA departments don't speak and they don't sem to notice when you add a few cars.
This gives enough time to generate a bit of a fleet and some cash before commiting to an office.
