thanks sussex,
i think it would be a waste of time approaching a member of the licensing committee as that is a huge part of the problem in this town.3 tory councillors have to declare an interest at any meeting concerning the taxi trade and due to political in-fighting all decisions seem to go against the trade.i'm still of the opinion that i should go for judicial review but i would like some decent legal advice before proceeding.regards mick(hantshog)

JD... was there not a case where the Birmingham cab trade .. ventured into a legal dispute with Birmingham City Council over licensing fees.... I think it was just before Birmingham derestricted....

You must get proper legal advice before embarking on a Judicial Review.

My concerns are that even if you win, and that will be maybe in 18 months time, is that you wont be that far from where you are now. :?

In this instance I would go down the 'pain in the ar**' route by keeping the licensing team busy with umpteen FoI act requests, and every time they reply give them another one, albeit a bit more technical.

And/or try the local press cos they quite like a taxi crisis story.

I had a similar situation earlier this year. Our plate prices had increased by 46%. The taxi trade had no joy in delaying the introduction of the increase but we did go down the route of making them work for their money with the FOI requests. There is a post on here somewhere with the questions that were asked. i didn't understand the questions or the answers but it made them do some work.

The most easiest and cheapest route is to object to the increase on the last day possible.

Then it will have to go back to committee, and if that's all they've got on the agenda then they might just pass it till the next committee which means they will have to re-advertise it.

The best I've managed is a 9 month delay. All for the price of a stamp.

tried that sussex.they originally planned to increase it on 1st of april but held an emergency meeting on the 2nd and put it up then.our council are never one to pass up an opportunity to make a quick buck which is why they need to be taken to jucicial review.
