It depends what your table of fares says. In our area it is an extra 70p per passenger but that confuses the passengers and causes arguements so most work on the next tarrif up which is 50% which isn't a problem because most 8 seater work is prebooked and quoted anyway

an 8 passenger seat HACKNEY would have to switch the meter on even if the fare was pre-arranged, to ensure no more than meter fare was charged...

see, sometimes i almost sound like i know something...

Only if it was staying in the licensed area !!!! Outside the licensed area it can charge whatever it likes.

outside its own LA it only has PHV status though too? so all jobs would have to be prebooked by at least 10 nanoseconds

so outside its own LA can a hackney decide NOT to put the meter on?....

If a hackney is doing a job outside it's own LA then it must have been pre-booked so it is a private hire booking so therfore an agreed price and no meter is needed. For instance if someone rings a hack up and asks to go to an airport well outside of the LA do you use the meter or do you work to a price?

In our area we are on the border with 3 other LA's apart from the short distance town work most journeys go into one or more other LA areas and quite a lot of work starts in one area and finishes in another without entering our own LA !!

and personally i cant see any problem with that

you pay insurance for "UK cover" so why do LA's and the like wanna restrict trade?....

Because if they didn't, every Hackney in the country would go to the honey-pot & their local areas would not be serviced.

And according to Mr Sussex, if you went to the honey-pot that was outside your area you could charge what you liked.

if there are "non-honey pot" areas they wont get or deserve cover anyway, and will only achieve interest from the number of hacks/PHV which they can support.

i think the honeypot theory is flawed, cakes only slice so many ways no matter how big, besides, who the hell are LA's to decide where i can trade, i cant tell them where to work can i?

my 0845 number, website and group newspaper ad wont stop within my LA thats fer sure....yeeehaaaaaaa

In Northampton...

Hackney rates are LA set and there's no addition for extra passengers.

PH can charge whatever they like so long as they notify the council of their tarrifs and charges and display them in the vehicle.

Fare and a half is the local standard.
