Found them, quaint old things.
9, If a badge has been provided by the council and delivered to the driver of a hackney carriage, either with the licence granted by the council or afterwards, he shall, when standing, plying or driving for hire, wear that badge in such position and manner as to be plainly and distinctly visable.
Great news indeed.
It is my experience that the majority of hackney carriage bye laws and private hire conditions distinguish when a badge is required to be worn and that statutory legislative provision stipulating that the licensing authority has the discretion in determining what form such badges might take and applied, sways my judgement in believing the issue of badges rests firmly in the hands of those issuing such badges.
What say you now about Benson?
