Says here that

All totals can be reset (optional passwords)

Surely having an "invisible" Read only memory contradicts that?

Mr GBC; you seem to be well up on Sweden. Many years ago, probably as long ago as 1980's, I heard that cab drivers in Sweden go to their/Swedish Inland Revenue once a month & have their taximeters read & pay their tax monthly, based on these readings.

Do you know anything about this?

Whilst I am a regular visitor there, and intend to live there full time I have little knowledge about the Swedish taxi trade other than the fact 'PH' does'nt exsist, and there's no limit on Taxi numbers although in Stockholm you don't get many independant Taxis, the majority are on a circuit such as Taxi Stockholm or Taxi Kurir.

isn't that where they have them new battery powered cabs running???? you could take your TX over and see if they will take a trade in or even run it over there it would be a novelty for the punters

The Measuring Instruments (Taximeters) Regulations 2006 lay down that taximeter manufacturers MUST comply with these regulations, one of which is that there should be NON-RESETTABLE TOTALS within taximeters, accessible for a period of at least one years after disconnection from a battery source.

Taximeters manufacturers MUST comply with these regulations if they want to stay in business.

A year? backup internal batteries may not even hold that info for a year, god, some sherriffs wouldn't hold the memory over night when they are turned off by using the M button on Metro's.

I've even known drivers with Cygnus meters who've lost all the settings after having the battery disconnected for a days work on the cab.

And that's what happened to my Cygnus MR300 about six weeks ago, when I left the computer on & flattened the battery. All the memory cleared, totals all gone & it had to be re-set with a supervisors PIN, which the meter engineer did not have, so he pulled the fuse, left it for about 20 seconds, put the fuse back in & then re-set it with the power-up PIN.

But if these Measuring Instruments (Taximeters) Regulations 2006 state that taximeters must hold the information required for a year after being disconnected from a battery source, then the technology must be available to do it, otherwise it would be pointless of the legislators to impose such regulations.

IMO there will be hidden totals within the taximeter's electronics, which the likes of me & you will not be able to access, unless we have the right equipment & know-how to access it.

Someone told me my cygnus MR400 records every single mile i drive , every hour i work , every fare i take into a permanent memory bank , is this true?

for instance it will can tell you the days u have worked how many hours and your fares on the meter and its not deleteable

anyone confirm this ?

i can see it all there i can delete it , but is it still there somewere?

It also records everything you say so I would be extremely cautious from now on because you never know who might be listening?

If they installed a flash memory (like those used in USB memory sticks) they don't require battery power to keep the data

i spoke to cygnus technical support , the guy i spoke to didnt sound 100% sure he knew what he was talkin about , but he says as far as he knows of all
all counters are resetable by the driver with the PIN and he didnt think theres a hidden permanent memory bank.

Thing that most annoys me is i meter account jobs regurly sometimes both ways on slightly different routes to help make our districts quote books , so my meter has a hell of a lot more on it than i actually do .

Tongue in cheek of course but I wonder when someone is going to come up with a talking meter that shouts out the fare when the meter is totalled? lol

It might solve the problem of being accused of demanding more than the meter fare?

Also tongue in cheek.
