From a legal point of view I think that's not a bad move, as it only costs the trade the price of letter and stamp.

What the trade doesn't need is some pillock to stand up and say he/they can win in court when the odds are not in their favour.

Unless of course Mr Big Gob is going to pay for it out of his own pocket.

Sounds like a bit of wishful thinking on someone's part.

I was reliably informed by the acting solicitor that she would apply for a stay on licenses being issued but she wasn't entirely convinced she would get one? I'm not surprised she is of that opinion but knowing the way some judges operate such as in the LTI v Leicester council case then I think there is a distinct possibility she might succeed.

My verdict is that the chance of JR being granted is unlikely but keep us informed its good sport.

Regards

JD

Apparently there was a meeting last night whereby the members of the CLTA each contributed to the legal costs a sum of £250 each to fight the decision on the basis that it was reached "unlawfully".

Whether this is true or not remains to be seen as there are plenty of rumours flying around at the moment.

Well the grounds for reaching that conclusion will make interesting reading?

The meeting was at 8pm at a pub by a "bridge", and they were asked to contribute £250 "as previously agreed"............ at least that's what the letter telling them about the meeting said. Dont know about the "unlawful" bit.
Any idea if the situation with the rank at the station has been resolved yet?? I bumped into a driver at the council offices yesterday who was "plating" a new LTI, he told me that there was "lots of work at the station" and was unaware of a problem there....he knows now.

Unfortunately not I'm afraid. Maybe JDBubbles will have a better idea.

No sign of an injunction or other. But I have had 2 weeks of pure heart attack inducing stress while processing my application - being conscious that I could part with my cash and then not get the plate after all I tried to get the cab tested and plated without paying for it and registering it ............couldnt do it as VOSA did not recognise the vehicle when I presented it at the test centre on Friday..............so I had to pay for it on Friday and drive to the supplying dealer in Burnley to have it registered and taxed...............collected the vehicle from Crewe this morning at 7.30am, arrived at test centre at 8.30am..........test complete at 10.15am, legged it up the road to the council offices where my FREE plate was issued along with hackney badge.
Now I can breath again..................................

I'm pleased you have made it, and well done for waiting and not paying someone a ransom for a plate.

Congratulations, you must be relieved now. I had the same stress whilst waiting for my vehicle to be delivered.
Out of interest which vehicle did you opt for. At a guess I would say the Nissan as it the only vehicle from Crewe that is currently on the approved list.
Also when collecting your plate was anything mentioned about the Station rank as it has gone a bit quiet at the moment. I was supposed to be getting something in writing which I am still waiting for ??

Thanks, the thought of paying the same again for a plate was NOT very appealing.

Yes I havent slept well the last couple of weeks, but near panic set in after I paid for it on Friday.............think I shall sleep tonight.
I bought the NX8 (Quickshift) as you rightly guessed, because of the 8th seat and the ability to carry 2 w/chairs.
The station is about the same as before.....council say any hackney can go on there .....Arriva say it is their land and their rank............County council are to confirm its status, until then it maybe better not to pull on there when other black cabs are there to avoid..........animosity????
When I told this in our Bridge St office the M.D said he was going to ring the Council himself.............so I guess its watch this space.

A letter was issued by the council last week stating that the station rank is on public highway, and as such any licensed hackney may use it............and Arriva have written to the Hackney Association saying that it remains private land and is part of the station.
I did indeed pick up from the station on Friday, I had a very hostile reception by one or two.............
The Hackney association will not permit new plate holders (myself included) to join the Association (and pick up from the station), nor are we allowed to join the black cab radio circuit/company, or the local taxicall.................some of us have opted to remain with a P.H company asthis is the only avenue open................guess what................they're not happy about that either.
