Has anyone heard of this or have any experience using it as an idividual owner/driver?

It looks a little too good to be true. Any opinions?

I know drivers that use this or similar systems and they seem ok.

But I think for it to be viable you need to do quite a few credit card jobs, and you need to add a charge to the fare which might clash with a set taxi tariff. :?

oh thats reassuring, so all i need to do is take a data tarrif and get a PDA, and then theres a "GOOD CHANCE" ill be up and running?

and what if it DOESNT work?......

I use taxipay, it works with any decent mobile phone.

There is no catch and it works well, no problem adding a surcharge as we do not have to except credit :wink:

mobile internet is never easy, even more so on a phone, yes, it CAN work - to a degree, or u can have a portable terminal, or use a laptop with a mobile card.

I have a feeling you may be playing devil's advocate with me.

What mobile internet sites have you had problems with given that you have a good signal/wi-fi?

My phone is very......acceptable in terms of mobile internet capabilities.

My question was intended to ellicit comments about experience with a particular system ..ie taxipay.

It appears to be 'free' as opposed to £12-15 per month. Any comments from anyone??

The attraction was the zero cost because I don't anticipate using it more than once or twice a year.

Do you think this would be a problem? How often do you use it?

I have a feeling you may be playing devil's advocate with me.

What mobile internet sites have you had problems with given that you have a good signal/wi-fi? - you wouldnt be able to rely on wifi - its localised, you need GPRS

My phone is very......acceptable in terms of mobile internet capabilities. - depends on what your looking at, and is it a true mobile website, or software driven?

the problem is to "give it a go" you need a PDA and a data tariff, these arent free, and if it doesnt work your stuck with it for the term of a contract

Only use it a few times a year myself, comes into its own when say you get a call from a rail station 20 odd miles away to pick someone up you don't know (I have had this).

You get their card details from them and then you don't care if they are there or not when you go because you have already got the dosh :wink:

For your information, I have an O2 Orbit 2 XDA running Windows Mobile 6 and Internet Explorer with GPRS, HSDPA, Bluetooth, SMS, MMS, Wi-Fi and USB capability.

I am quite satisfied that my 'steam-powered' mobile will more than adequately cope with demands that I will put upon it in. If not, then it's off to the nearest cash machine (as suggested by Tom-Tom with built-in GPS) with another upset customer who doesn't think my customer service is up to scratch!!

However, thank you for your interest.

yes, BUT, youve got the kit to access and use mobile services (but not to the degree of some), - many DONT have this, in fact, some only have a PHONE for calls, would you believe that?, no GPRS, no java, no mobile windows 6....
